- Design system architectures and data flows for biologics, pharmaceutical, and advanced therapy manufacturing systems
- Develop product recipe strategies across ERP, MES, and DCS Batch application layers
- Establish and govern master data
- Produce ISA-88- and ISA-95-aligned architecture, application-flow, and data-flow diagrams
- Design architectures for scalability, cybersecurity, data integrity, and multi-product flexibility
- Lead the creation, review, and approval of URS, FRS, DS/DDS, functional and control narratives, recipe documentation, automation standards, and engineering guidelines
- Convert process requirements into digital system design documentation
- Configure, program, deploy, modify, and test MES, LIMS, Serialization, and CMMS functions
- Assist with integrating OEM skids and manufacturing equipment
- Support FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ, and PQ protocols, along with GMP validation activities
- Lead digital-system deviation investigations, CAPAs, and risk assessments
- Investigate batch failures and system performance issues, then optimize system operation
- Provide root-cause analysis and issue resolution for 24/7 operations
- Create lifecycle plans for upgrades, patches, and system expansions
- Work with IT/OT, process engineering, MSAT, quality, and capital project teams
- Coordinate vendors, system integrators, and OEMs while reviewing design packages
- Mentor junior engineers and serve as the technical subject-matter expert during audits and regulatory inspections
- Serve as the client liaison for satisfaction, project delivery, and relationship management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, such as Automation, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or a related discipline
- At least 2–16+ years of automation engineering experience in GMP life sciences, including biotech, pharmaceutical, or ATMP environments
- Expert-level experience with multiple MES platforms, data repositories, Serialization, and integrations with ERP, LIMS, CMMS, and other manufacturing applications
- Demonstrated ability to author, interpret, and own URS, FRS, and DS documentation
- Experience designing system applications and data flows across manufacturing applications
- Strong knowledge of ISA-88 batch control, ISA-95 manufacturing hierarchy, and GAMP 5
- Hands-on experience supporting biologics and sterile or aseptic manufacturing environments
- Understanding of multisite standards used by global manufacturers
- Authorization to work full time in the United States
- Ability to work without current or future visa sponsorship
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel domestically and potentially extensively for project and business needs
