Senior Payroll Vendor Relationship Manager (Romania Remote)

Lead Oyster’s global payroll and compliance partner network, with responsibility for vendor governance, commercial negotiations, payroll accuracy, and regulatory compliance.

Description

  • Manage and develop Oyster’s global network of external payroll and core compliance providers
  • Act as the subject matter expert and operational and commercial owner for strategic multi-country payroll partners
  • Oversee payroll delivery from end to end, including cut-off calendars, variance analysis, gross-to-net calculations, statutory filings, and failure management
  • Track partner SLA performance, data delivery, payroll deadlines, capacity, readiness, and processing controls
  • Set partner strategy, governance models, scorecards, review schedules, escalation criteria, and improvement plans
  • Ensure partners meet expectations for accuracy, timeliness, statutory compliance, responsiveness, controls, and customer outcomes
  • Oversee vendor relationships from selection and onboarding through transition, consolidation, or exit
  • Assess partner capabilities, geographic coverage, operational maturity, security and compliance posture, and scalability
  • Define and monitor KPIs, SLAs, scorecards, remediation plans, and performance benchmarks
  • Run executive business reviews and performance conversations with partner leadership
  • Turn performance insights into recommendations for Operations, Product, Finance, Legal, Customer teams, and senior leadership
  • Perform vendor compliance audits, risk assessments, operational reviews, regulatory monitoring, and compliance tracking
  • Build relationships with partner executives and lead negotiations covering contracts, renewals, pricing, remedies, and service changes
  • Resolve complex multi-market payroll escalations through root-cause analysis, recovery planning, prevention, and executive communication
  • Source and onboard new partners to expand global coverage and operational capabilities
  • Advise internal stakeholders and support partner selection based on customer needs and business priorities
  • Provide secondary oversight of Health and Safety and Compliance vendor relationships
  • Coordinate cross-functional responses to critical operational issues and drive complete resolution
  • Review and improve workflows, documentation, knowledge management, automation, and AI-enabled reporting
  • Analyze ticket and query trends to uncover systemic issues and develop preventative resources
  • Lead People Services and cross-functional initiatives that support Oyster’s mission

Requirements

  • At least five years of direct experience managing multi-country payroll vendors and Compliance or Health and Safety partners in a global setting
  • Strong technical knowledge of complete payroll cycles, gross-to-net calculations, statutory filings, and payroll controls
  • Substantial experience owning strategic payroll and compliance vendor relationships across global or multi-country operations
  • Thorough knowledge of payroll operations, compliance tracking, risk assessment, statutory controls, regulatory monitoring, and global legal standards
  • Demonstrated success improving vendor performance and regulatory alignment through KPIs, SLAs, compliance audits, governance, remediation, and executive reviews
  • Ability to negotiate commercially and manage contracts, including pricing, service levels, remedies, renewals, and trade-offs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Commercially aware and focused on practical solutions
  • Exceptional relationship-building and influencing skills
  • High ownership and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment
  • Experience handling complex escalations and coordinating resolution across multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Experience collaborating with Operations, Legal, Support, Sales, and customer-facing teams
  • Process-focused approach with an emphasis on scalability and operational maturity
  • Comfort working through ambiguity while developing evolving operational functions and frameworks
  • Proven proactive partnership with HRBPs, Lifecycle Teams, and Pay teams
  • Fluent English
  • Dependable home internet access or the ability to obtain it
