Payroll Manager at AAB (Hybrid, UK)

Lead outsourced payroll delivery for AAB’s SME clients, overseeing client relationships and Client Success Specialists. Improve service quality, compliance, efficiency, and retention across payroll operations.

Description

  • Oversee payroll service delivery for a portfolio of SME clients
  • Lead, coach, and develop Client Success Specialists
  • Build trusted client relationships as a primary point of contact
  • Coordinate payroll activity among clients, Client Success Specialists, and QX
  • Manage workloads, resource allocation, and service priorities
  • Track payroll accuracy, SLA performance, client satisfaction, and operational efficiency
  • Escalate and resolve complex client queries, service issues, and operational challenges
  • Develop team capability through coaching, feedback, mentoring, and performance management
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence
  • Lead client service reviews and relationship management activities
  • Find opportunities to improve client service and operational processes
  • Support client retention and identify opportunities for additional services
  • Work with HR Consulting, Implementation, Technology, and other internal teams
  • Support marketing, networking, and business development initiatives
  • Identify service delivery risks and introduce controls and corrective actions
  • Oversee QX payroll processing, outputs, client communications, and exception reports
  • Keep current with payroll legislation and industry developments
  • Review service performance data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Keep operational procedures, controls, and client process documentation accurate
  • Support transitions from onboarding into business-as-usual payroll delivery
  • Contribute to service development, technology improvements, and continuous improvement projects

Requirements

  • Higher Grade, A Level, or an equivalent qualification
  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Experience managing payroll delivery in a client-focused environment
  • Experience leading teams and developing high-performing employees
  • Experience managing payroll client portfolios and stakeholder relationships
  • Experience with outsourced or offshore delivery models
  • Experience resolving complex payroll queries and client escalations
  • Experience leading operational improvement and service excellence initiatives
  • Experience supporting business development and client retention
  • Experience managing performance against operational and commercial targets
  • Excellent leadership and people management capabilities
  • Strong stakeholder and client relationship management skills
  • Excellent organisational and workload management abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation, operations, and industry best practice
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and payroll software
