Part-Time Remote Psychiatry Front Office and Billing Specialist

Provide remote administrative and billing support for a U.S.-based outpatient psychiatry practice. Responsibilities include patient communication, scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorizations, and billing assistance.

Description

  • Respond to incoming patient calls with empathy and professionalism
  • Contact patients by phone as needed
  • Communicate with patients, guardians, and healthcare providers
  • Manage sensitive conversations calmly and professionally
  • Record accurate messages and patient interaction notes
  • Follow up on appointments, paperwork, insurance, and related needs
  • Schedule, reschedule, and maintain patient appointments
  • Coordinate new-patient visits and follow-up appointments
  • Complete patient intake and support intake-related tasks
  • Gather and validate demographic and insurance details
  • Keep patient records and documentation accurate and complete
  • Confirm patient eligibility and insurance benefits
  • Review coverage details and flag insurance issues
  • Support prior authorizations for visits and medications
  • Contact insurers to check authorization progress
  • Document authorization requests and results accurately
  • Help record patient payments
  • Review accounts for unpaid balances and other issues
  • Support billing follow-up and denial resolution
  • Address patient billing questions when appropriate
  • Maintain complete and accurate billing records
  • After core duties are established, assist with provider credentialing and payer enrollment with major insurers

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience as a healthcare virtual assistant, medical receptionist, medical administrator, or in a comparable role
  • Strong background handling patient phone calls
  • Experience scheduling appointments and supporting patient intake
  • Experience verifying insurance coverage
  • Prior authorization experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience with medical billing or denial management
  • Tebra experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, psychology, or another mental-health practice is advantageous
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Exceptional attention to detail and documentation ability
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Willing and able to learn new healthcare software and workflows
  • Reliable internet, computer, and professional home working environment
  • Able to protect confidential patient information and follow HIPAA requirements
