Claims Specialist II - California Remote

Handle vehicle, property damage, and moderate bodily injury claims remotely for Mercury Insurance customers in California. Investigate liability, negotiate settlements, and provide consistent support throughout the claims process.

Description

  • Support customers throughout the claims process by providing guidance and timely assistance
  • Investigate and process vehicle, property damage, and moderate bodily injury claims
  • Handle claims accurately and efficiently to help control avoidable expenses
  • Deliver high-quality service throughout each stage of the claims process
  • Review coverage information and explain applicable claims procedures
  • Establish reserves for expected claim expenses
  • Coordinate vehicle inspections and authorize rental arrangements
  • Respond to customer questions and concerns to support satisfaction and retention
  • Collect information from involved parties and witnesses through phone, email, text, and written correspondence
  • Review police reports and obtain supporting evidence, including dash-camera and surveillance footage
  • Evaluate loss details and determine liability
  • Recognize and escalate higher-risk claims involving substantial indemnity exposure or potential fraud
  • Review medical records and evaluate, negotiate, and resolve moderate bodily injury claims
  • Work with legal counsel representing claimants as well as unrepresented parties
  • Act as the primary customer contact while coordinating with internal departments
  • Work collaboratively with the team to support customers shared across departments

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least six months of customer service experience in a high-volume environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six to 12 months of claims-adjusting experience preferred
  • Previous remote-work experience is a plus
  • Reliable high-speed internet with minimum download speeds of 25 Mbps
  • A dedicated, distraction-free workspace

  • Ability to communicate electronically and by phone with colleagues, customers, and external contacts
  • Ability to use and type on a computer, laptop, or other company-issued electronic device for extended periods
