Staff DevOps Engineer, Developer Experience at Demandbase (US Remote)

Lead Demandbase’s Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and internal developer platform strategy. Improve reliable software delivery across the company’s AI-powered B2B pipeline growth platform.

Description

  • Set and lead the technical roadmap for Demandbase’s Internal Developer Platform
  • Write and review RFCs and design documents adopted across teams
  • Review the architecture of organization-wide infrastructure changes
  • Serve as the escalation point for critical platform infrastructure incidents
  • Lead retrospectives and turn findings into lasting structural improvements
  • Mentor senior and staff engineers across teams
  • Own and advance the Internal Developer Platform, including Backstage catalogs, golden-path scaffolder templates, and CI/CD components
  • Collaborate with software, data, security, and product engineering leaders to reduce systemic SDLC friction through automation and platform abstraction
  • Define, assess, pilot, and deploy safe AI-assisted development workflows
  • Own CI/CD orchestration architecture built on GitLab CI/CD and shared components
  • Standardize build, testing, and deployment patterns across application and data workloads
  • Own and evolve the GitOps deployment strategy
  • Lead the architecture and lifecycle of multi-cluster Kubernetes platforms across environments, including EKS, GKE, upgrades, Karpenter, networking, and security posture
  • Own multi-account cloud IAM, networking, and security architecture
  • Set the Terraform and Crossplane Infrastructure-as-Code strategy
  • Own Istio service mesh architecture across multi-cluster environments
  • Operate core platform systems, including GitOps tooling, secrets management, and service mesh
  • Define the observability platform strategy across Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana, Loki, Mimir, and Thanos
  • Lead platform FinOps, including cost visibility, unit economics, and waste reduction
  • Define and improve organization-wide SLIs, SLOs, and incident response practices
  • Lead a blameless postmortem culture across the organization

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of overall engineering experience
  • Substantial hands-on software development experience in Go, Python, or Java
  • At least 7 years building and operating cloud infrastructure at scale
  • Proven technical leadership across multiple teams through cross-team RFCs, architecture decisions, or platform strategy
  • Deep hands-on experience designing and operating production Kubernetes platforms spanning multiple accounts and clusters, using EKS and/or GKE at meaningful scale
  • Strong proficiency with Terraform and Crossplane
  • Strong command of GitOps practices with Flux or Argo CD
  • Extensive experience designing and owning CI/CD systems; GitLab CI/CD preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Istio service mesh in multi-cluster environments, including security and traffic policies
  • Extensive experience building and operating observability platforms with Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana, Loki, Mimir, or Thanos
  • Working knowledge of container and software supply-chain security, including image scanning, hardened base images, and vulnerability remediation
  • Experience owning or substantially contributing to cloud cost governance or FinOps
  • Fluency with AI-assisted or agentic development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex
  • Strong understanding of SLIs, SLOs, alerting strategy, and incident response
  • Experience leading blameless postmortems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience supporting data pipeline or batch platforms such as Airflow, EMR, or Dataproc is a plus
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must provide specific United States work authorization status
  • Must answer application questions about personally owned platforms and Kubernetes or cloud platforms
