Principal Data Architect (Hybrid)

Description

  • Own the Retail data and AI architecture blueprint spanning ingestion, storage, transformation, serving, governance, and AI/ML deployment.
  • Define target-state architecture for cloud platforms, data products, AI systems, and integration patterns.
  • Lead architecture governance, facilitate design reviews, assess technology proposals, and uphold standards.
  • Convert business strategy and regulatory requirements into practical architectural decisions.
  • Act as the technical bridge between Corporate, Retail IT leadership, and enterprise architecture.
  • Architect and advance the hybrid data platform across Microsoft Azure, Databricks, and Google.
  • Design Medallion and Lakehouse architectures, Delta Lake and Unity Catalog implementations, and Data Mesh-aligned publishing patterns.
  • Oversee the architecture and integrations of the master data management platform.
  • Create API-first, event-driven, and ETL/ELT integration approaches.
  • Define AI/ML architecture for development, training, deployment, monitoring, and governance.
  • Build MLOps capabilities covering CI/CD, feature stores, model registries, MLflow, and model serving.
  • Design Generative AI and LLM solutions using RAG, agentic frameworks, prompt management, and responsible AI controls.
  • Establish frameworks for AI governance, model risk, explainability, auditability, and compliance.
  • Design data governance and security architecture covering catalogs, lineage, classification, quality, stewardship, and access control.
  • Set engineering standards, reusable reference architectures, testing frameworks, CI/CD practices, and documentation expectations.
  • Review architectures and coach senior data, machine learning, and domain architects.
  • Collaborate with business and enterprise technology leaders on solutions, vendor assessments, RFPs, and due diligence.
  • Create executive-level architecture documentation and implementation roadmaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least seven years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise architecture.
  • Four or more years serving in a senior or lead architect role.
  • Track record of designing and delivering enterprise-scale data platforms in cloud environments.
  • Strong preference for experience with Microsoft Azure, Google, and Databricks.
  • Experience architecting production AI/ML systems, including MLOps pipelines, LLM applications, and agentic frameworks.
  • Substantial experience in financial services, insurance, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience in the broking domain is strongly preferred.
  • Experience advising senior business leaders as a technical authority on architecture.
