Director, Executive Compensation – Orthopedics (Hybrid)

Lead executive compensation strategy for an orthopedics business, advising senior leaders and the Board on global incentives, governance, disclosures, and pay decisions.

Description

  • Lead the enterprise strategy, design, governance, and delivery of executive compensation programs
  • Own the global executive compensation philosophy and architecture spanning base pay, annual incentives, long-term incentives, and executive benefits
  • Advise senior leaders and HR partners on executive pay decisions, governance, and risk
  • Prepare materials and recommendations for the CEO, CHRO, CFO, and the Board’s Compensation & Benefits Committee
  • Oversee executive market benchmarking, competitive intelligence, peer-group design, and pay-for-performance analysis
  • Improve and transform executive compensation processes, tools, and governance
  • Oversee compensation decisions and administration across the executive lifecycle, including reviews, promotions, offers, transitions, and separations
  • Own executive compensation disclosure strategy and execution, including CD&A, proxy compensation tables, and public filing analysis
  • Lead proxy advisor readiness and modeling, including ISS and Glass Lewis predictive analyses and scenario planning
  • Track executive compensation regulations, disclosure obligations, accounting and tax considerations, and shareholder voting trends
  • Define the executive compensation communications strategy
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance and Accounting, Tax, Audit, Total Rewards, and the committee’s independent consultant
  • Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing executive compensation team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • At least 12 years of progressive executive and equity compensation experience
  • Experience designing, governing, and delivering enterprise programs in a global environment
  • At least 5 years of experience leading people
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to create executive-ready narratives and materials for leadership and Board audiences
  • Demonstrated presence, judgment, and discretion when advising leaders and handling sensitive information
  • Ability to develop data-driven recommendations grounded in governance standards and risk awareness
  • Advanced analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, business, financial, and governance capabilities
  • Ability to synthesize performance, market, accounting, tax, and governance inputs
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work with pace, rigor, and sound judgment in high-visibility, time-sensitive situations
  • Ability to interpret and communicate pay-for-performance outcomes, dilution and overhang considerations, and accounting impacts
  • Ability to manage multiple complex workstreams in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to build partnerships across HR, Legal, Finance, Tax, Accounting, and Audit
  • Ability to establish credibility with senior leaders and navigate complex stakeholder environments
  • Ability to influence decisions through data, clear rationale, and sound governance practices
  • MBA or another advanced degree in HR, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field is preferred
  • Experience in a highly regulated, publicly traded global company is preferred; healthcare or life sciences experience is also preferred
