Business Development Manager, Middle Market – Texas (Remote)

American Express is seeking a Business Development Manager to grow financial solutions among Middle Market companies in Austin and San Antonio. The role focuses on executive relationship-building, strategic pipeline management, and complex deal execution.

Description

  • Own end-to-end client acquisition across the territory, focusing on high-value Middle Market organizations
  • Develop and maintain senior relationships with CEOs, CFOs, and other financial decision-makers
  • Source and convert new opportunities through market intelligence, professional networks, and industry knowledge
  • Maintain an active local market presence while traveling 25–50% of the time
  • Oversee a high-value pipeline through reliable forecasting, strong conversion, and consistent quota delivery
  • Apply data, analytics, and financial insight to rank opportunities and direct resources effectively
  • Partner with Risk, Underwriting, Pricing, and Product teams to create tailored, profitable solutions
  • Lead discovery discussions that reveal client challenges and areas for growth
  • Design American Express offerings such as working capital optimization and expense management solutions
  • Share informed perspectives on market developments, payment innovation, and financial transformation
  • Direct complex negotiations with executive-level stakeholders
  • Finalize transactions and hand off accounts to the Field Account Development team
  • Follow the American Express Code of Conduct and Sales Practice requirements
  • Demonstrate ethical judgment and reinforce compliance across the sales process

Requirements

  • At least seven years of successful performance in complex B2B, commercial, or financial sales
  • A consistent record of top-quartile results and performance above challenging sales targets
  • Advanced capability in consultative sales involving multiple stakeholders
  • Proven ability to influence C-suite leaders and close large, high-impact transactions
  • Successful solution-selling experience in payments, financial services, SaaS, or related sectors
  • Strong understanding of financial concepts and business performance
  • Ability to explain return on investment, profitability, and commercial impact
  • Ability to review client financial statements and analyze balance sheets
  • Ability to recognize working capital requirements
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical judgment and bias toward execution
  • Ability to work effectively within a regulated environment
  • Ability to work independently, solve creatively, and navigate the processes of a large institution
  • Flexibility in rapidly changing business conditions
  • Proficiency in CRM administration, pipeline forecasting, and disciplined sales execution
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; an advanced degree or equivalent professional experience is valued
  • Current residence within the assigned territory
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required; American Express will not sponsor a visa
