Senior Privacy Counsel – GDPR and AI

Advise an international technology company on GDPR, AI, and commercial data protection. Strengthen privacy governance, agreements, and risk management across Germany and international markets.

Description

  • Provide clear, commercially grounded legal advice on privacy and data protection across the business
  • Partner with product, technology, and commercial teams to address privacy in new services from the outset
  • Support negotiations on commercial agreements covering data processing, international transfers, customer relationships, and third-party arrangements
  • Advise on GDPR and other applicable international data protection laws across markets
  • Guide teams on emerging technologies such as AI, new products, and data processing activities
  • Review and enhance privacy policies, internal procedures, and governance frameworks
  • Collaborate with information security and IT on data governance, risk assessments, and privacy incidents
  • Improve privacy operations through automation and more effective internal processes
  • Track regulatory developments in data protection, AI, and digital services
  • Train and guide colleagues on their responsibilities for personal data

Requirements

  • Be a qualified lawyer
  • Bring around 4–8 years of experience in data protection, privacy, or technology law, from private practice, an in-house role, or both
  • Have strong knowledge of GDPR and European data protection law, including regulatory guidance and its practical application in commercial organisations
  • Have advised technology businesses, ideally in software, AI, digital products, or other data-intensive settings
  • Understand AI technologies and the legal and regulatory challenges involved in their development and use
  • Have experience advising on commercial agreements involving personal data, international transfers, and complex data processing arrangements
  • Be comfortable working directly with product, engineering, and technical stakeholders, and translating complex issues into clear, practical legal advice
  • Take a commercial approach to managing risk
  • Be well organised and able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities independently
  • Experience in an international business or advising on privacy matters across multiple jurisdictions is beneficial
