Chief of Staff, People Team

Partner with Zendesk’s Chief People Officer to shape People strategy, planning, budgets, and executive communications. Help coordinate global employee initiatives at a customer experience software company.

Description

  • Partner with the Chief People Officer to set and deliver People team priorities, annual plans, and operating routines.
  • Manage the People initiative portfolio, tracking outcomes, dependencies, staffing, risks, decisions, trade-offs, and progress.
  • Coordinate People team planning and budgets with Finance and functional leaders, including forecasts, reports, and investment proposals.
  • Develop clear narratives and materials for Board and executive discussions on People topics, and manage follow-up.
  • Organize and facilitate People Leadership Team offsites, preparing agendas and pre-reads, recording decisions, and tracking actions.
  • Coordinate All Hands meetings and engagement events for Zendesk’s global People team.
  • Contribute to the People Leadership Team and Zendesk’s Chief of Staff community.
  • Build partnerships across functions and share effective ways of working.
  • Lead confidential, high-priority special projects for the Chief People Officer, from initial assessment through measurable outcomes.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in business strategy, business operations, People or HR operations, consulting, program management, or a related strategic role.
  • At least 4 years of direct partnership with C-suite or senior executive leaders as a Chief of Staff, in strategy or operations, or in an equivalent role.
  • Experience leading enterprise or functional planning, portfolio management, and cross-functional initiatives involving multiple senior stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing executive and Board materials, synthesizing business, financial, and people data into clear recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, forecasting, or financial planning with Finance.
  • A strategic, execution-focused mindset.
  • Strong communication skills with executives.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee, organizational, and business information.
  • A data-informed approach to prioritization, portfolio management, budgeting, and performance reporting.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and build trust without formal authority.
  • A calm, flexible approach to uncertainty and competing priorities.
  • Comfort using AI-enabled tools responsibly, checking outputs and safeguarding sensitive information.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting a Chief People Officer, CHRO, or senior leadership team at a global technology or SaaS company.
  • Preferred: Experience in an organization with more than 3,000 employees across multiple regions, navigating growth, transformation, or significant operational change.
  • Preferred: Experience designing leadership-team routines, offsites, employee communications, or large-scale engagement events.
  • Preferred: Experience with planning, portfolio management, and analytics tools.
