Provide on-demand phone interpretation between Tetun and English as a part-time contractor for LanguageLine Solutions. Work remotely from a quiet home office in the United States.

- Interpret on-demand phone calls between Tetun and English speakers.
- Accurately convey meaning in line with established interpretation protocols.
- Speak clearly in both languages, using correct pronunciation, enunciation, and courteous expressions.
- Maintain a professional manner throughout each session.
- Stay composed during difficult, distressed, or emergency 911 calls.
- Be punctual and available during scheduled work hours.
- Follow client instructions and protocols when assisting people with limited English proficiency.
- Use relevant terminology and procedures in medical, insurance, financial, legal, government, and other settings.
- Show cultural sensitivity when working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Provide spoken interpretation; written translation is not part of the role.
- Work from a quiet, secure home office.
- Handle calls that may be emotional, stressful, lengthy, or high-volume while meeting company service standards.
Talablar
- Be fluent in Tetun and English and understand the cultural context of both languages.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and the ability to recognize regional and accent differences.
- Have excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
- Remain neutral and objective during sensitive conversations.
- Education or experience in a language-related field, such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation, is preferred.
- Adapt to technology updates introduced by LanguageLine Solutions.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Have work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Reading and writing proficiency in the requested languages is highly preferred.
- Have a dedicated personal device for business use.
- Have a desktop or laptop running Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS, or an acceptable tablet or smartphone.
- Have high-speed internet with at least 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, ping no higher than 300 ms, and jitter no higher than 30 ms.
- Have access to a quiet space without background noise or distractions.
- Be able to use a keyboard and mouse and remain seated at a computer for most of the workday.
- Be able to use company-provided software and systems.
- Have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
- Be able to lift up to 26 pounds.
- Be prepared for possible exposure to moderate noise levels.
- A post-offer background check and/or drug screening may be required, depending on location.
