Associate HR Consultant – Oregon Remote Contract

Provide HR compliance, policy, compensation, benefits, and people operations consulting on a contract basis. Advise nonprofits, foundations, small businesses, and organizing groups across the United States.

Description

  • Independently determine how to complete client deliverables within each project's contracted scope of work
  • Conduct HR compliance audits
  • Develop and interpret workplace policies
  • Analyze compensation and benefits
  • Provide HR coaching and advisory support
  • Implement benefits programs
  • Conduct workplace investigations
  • Support workplace culture initiatives, reviews, and evaluations
  • Lead client meetings and deliver work according to agreed timelines
  • Create high-quality work products and provide client services without generative AI
  • Deliver expert-level work independently or as part of a team
  • Respond to internal Slack inquiries and external client emails within two business days
  • Proactively prepare agendas and schedule client meetings
  • Send tasks and reminders following meetings
  • Maintain thorough notes and manage project follow-up

Requirements

  • At least five years of consultant- or director-level experience in People Operations, Human Resources, hiring or recruitment, team management, workplace policy development, or a related function
  • If self-employment represents the only HR experience, provide at least three positive client references and three work samples
  • Experience leading organizational HR compliance and risk management
  • Experience interpreting employment requirements and developing and maintaining compliant policies and practices
  • Experience identifying potential risks and advising organizational leaders on compliance issues
  • Expertise designing or implementing people-first policies focused on inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility
  • Experience designing or managing compensation strategies, including salary benchmarking, benefits planning, and performance metric development and evaluation
  • Working knowledge of HR technologies and platforms, including HRIS and performance management tools, or the ability to learn new technologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to produce proprietary work without generative AI
  • Ability to proactively create agendas and facilitate meetings
  • Strong interpersonal skills, multi-stakeholder communication, and active listening
  • Ability to serve as an accountability partner and meet commitments and deadlines
  • Comfort adapting and solving problems as circumstances change
  • Ability to maintain an updated calendar and manage time and capacity
  • Ability to translate broad project direction into practical daily next steps
  • Openness to consistently giving and receiving feedback
  • Proficiency working fully remotely with Zoom, Google Workspace, and other remote-work tools
  • Availability for up to 15 hours per week across at least three business days, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the candidate's time zone, Monday through Friday
  • Availability to work at least 46 weeks per contract year, including 23 required weeks during the initial six-month contract
  • Helpful but not required: consulting experience; knowledge of pro-worker management, union membership, and Collective Bargaining Agreements; ATS experience; facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution; or HR experience in nonprofit, foundation, or social justice organizing settings

  • $60 per hour for internal or non-client work that supports firm operations

  • Contract renewal option after evaluation
  • $20-$30 per hour raise upon promotion to Senior Consultant following review and completion of 500 hours of client work
