2nd Line Network Engineer - Manchester Hybrid

Support escalated network and infrastructure incidents for CDW in a hybrid Manchester role. Work across Cisco, security, cloud and monitoring platforms on a rotating night-shift schedule.

Description

  • Resolve technical incidents escalated from 1st Line Support
  • Deliver technical solutions to end users
  • Diagnose incidents and provide troubleshooting assistance
  • Monitor and analyse system logs
  • Audit rule bases and provide technical guidance
  • Upgrade device software, apply patches and fix defects
  • Back up and restore configurations
  • Manage rule-base and network configuration changes
  • Work with 3rd Line Support on critical incidents
  • Set up and complete scheduled operational tasks
  • Escalate issues to vendors and coordinate support when required
  • Prepare handovers for the next shift
  • Report potential service issues to Problem and Incident Management
  • Recommend and implement approved changes through change management
  • Participate in shadowing and support knowledge sharing
  • Assist the Service Desk and 1st Line Engineers
  • Maintain and expand technical knowledge, skills and experience
  • Provide technical support during new-customer transitions
  • Deliver remote support across four 12-hour night shifts followed by four days off

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of experience in a comparable SLA-driven support role
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects and implementing complex changes
  • Extensive experience with Cisco switching and routing environments
  • Strong knowledge of Fortinet, Check Point, Palo Alto, Cisco, Cisco Meraki, HP Aruba, F5, Azure and AWS
  • Knowledge of Netscaler and F5 load balancers
  • Experience with HP switching technologies
  • Preferably knowledgeable in Cisco wireless, SD-WAN, DNAC, ISE and ACI
  • Hold Security Clearance (SC) or be able to obtain it
  • Experience applying ITIL best practices
  • Ability to keep technical accreditations current in line with catalogued services
  • Willingness to adopt evolving technologies and tools
  • Readiness to explore, adapt to and develop with AI integration
