Staff Application Engineer - Bartlesville, OK (Hybrid)

Support ABB instrumentation software, hardware, and field services as a Staff Application Engineer. Troubleshoot customer systems and help deliver dependable industrial automation deployments from Bartlesville or Houston.

Description

  • Provide advanced technical support for ABB’s instrumentation portfolio, covering automation software and hardware, system startup, troubleshooting, recovery, maintenance, and complex customer issues.
  • Deliver remote and on-site field service, including preventive and corrective maintenance, installation troubleshooting, product deployment, and operational readiness support.
  • Manage customer incidents and escalations through resolution, reporting status, root causes, corrective actions, and solutions within service-level commitments.
  • Develop trusted customer relationships by identifying risks, supporting production continuity, and providing training and application guidance.
  • Partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Product Management, Logistics, Calibration, Sales, and Services teams to resolve issues, enhance products, and implement lasting solutions.
  • Capture technical knowledge, create self-service support resources, share best practices, and recommend product improvements based on customer and field feedback.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, mechatronics, or computer science, or a related field is required.
  • Experience diagnosing hardware, software, systems, platforms, or instrumentation equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including root-cause diagnosis and solution implementation.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-management skills for customer-facing work.
  • Proficient or native-level English communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 15%.
  • Consistent focus on high-quality support and customer service commitments.
  • Must already hold U.S. work authorization allowing employment with ABB.
  • Experience supporting ABB instrumentation products is preferred.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation products and distributed I/O systems is preferred.
  • Experience with field service, preventive maintenance, or managed services is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Knowledge-Centered Service (KCS) practices is preferred.
  • Experience providing technical training or coaching customers is preferred.
