Business Development Manager, Medical Communications & Life Sciences

Drive U.S. pharmaceutical and biotechnology client growth for a global medical communications agency. Build senior stakeholder relationships through strategic outreach, industry networking, and field engagement.

Description

  • Create and execute strategies to win new pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients
  • Identify target organizations and key senior decision-makers
  • Develop relationships with senior Medical Affairs and Medical Information stakeholders, including Heads, Vice Presidents, and Directors
  • Generate qualified opportunities among emerging and smaller pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies
  • Lead targeted outreach and cultivate senior-level client relationships
  • Use existing industry relationships and professional networks to uncover opportunities
  • Research target accounts, therapeutic areas, priorities, and potential needs
  • Manage the full business development cycle from prospecting and qualification through meetings, proposals, negotiation, and close
  • Assess prospective clients' medical, scientific, and communications needs and match them with agency solutions
  • Present the organization as a strategic client partner
  • Create engagement strategies that support long-term account relationships
  • Keep the business development pipeline accurate and qualified
  • Represent the organization at pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical communications, scientific, and industry events
  • Strengthen relationships through virtual meetings and in-person engagement
  • Partner with scientific, medical, and operational teams to understand requirements and develop suitable solutions
  • Track industry and therapeutic-area developments to surface new opportunities
  • Support expansion of the organization's U.S. market presence
  • Work from a professional home office while building field relationships through meetings, conferences, networking, scientific meetings, and other industry events
  • Travel throughout California and elsewhere in the U.S. as needed

Requirements

  • At least five years of business development, client acquisition, or commercial growth experience in medical communications, healthcare communications, life sciences, or a related agency setting
  • Track record of winning new business from pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies
  • Hands-on ownership of the B2B business development cycle from prospecting through close
  • Experience engaging senior Medical Affairs and/or Medical Information stakeholders, ideally at Head, Vice President, or Director level
  • Clear understanding of how pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations work with external agency partners
  • Experience selling or positioning professional services, medical communications, scientific communications, medical affairs, medical information, or related solutions
  • Experience finding and developing new pharmaceutical and biotechnology accounts
  • Strong consultative selling and value-based communication abilities
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building capabilities
  • Ability to understand complex scientific and medical services and explain their value to prospective clients
  • Experience representing an organization at conferences, congresses, networking events, and scientific meetings
  • Proactive, commercially focused, and self-directed working style
  • Strong organization and dependable follow-through
  • Ability to work independently remotely and collaborate effectively with a global team
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout California and elsewhere in the U.S. as required
  • Current residence in California

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Sciences or a closely related discipline preferred
