Application Support Engineer at Santander (Hybrid, United States)

Support Santander’s banking applications across production and lower environments in a hybrid role. Handle incidents, releases, infrastructure troubleshooting, and reliability improvements.

Description

  • Support critical production applications and resolve live-service issues
  • Troubleshoot production and nonproduction environments during code deployments and application releases
  • Respond to major incidents and critical application or system problems
  • Monitor and resolve requests in the ASE ServiceNow queue
  • Complete daily maintenance at the start and end of each shift
  • Address issues surfaced by maintenance activities or automation results
  • Work with developers to meet application availability, performance, security, and maintainability goals
  • Diagnose root causes across Windows Server and Linux operating systems
  • Connect development and operations through software-engineering-based systems support and administration
  • Improve efficiency throughout the software delivery pipeline
  • Investigate and remediate server infrastructure issues
  • Assess impact and lead root-cause remediation across application and infrastructure tiers
  • Coordinate live and offline triage, involving vendors when necessary
  • Provide technical oversight and carry out infrastructure upgrades
  • Produce clear, practical technical documentation
  • Build effective working relationships with stakeholders, business teams, incident and problem managers, technical support, and development teams
  • Report performance metrics and contribute to continual service improvement
  • Coordinate root-cause analyses, document workarounds and known errors, and implement measures to prevent recurring incidents
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience — required
  • 5–9 years of experience supporting web-based applications across relevant technology architectures — required
  • Knowledge of complete systems development life cycles, including waterfall, iterative, and modern delivery approaches
  • Understanding of networking and internet concepts, web servers, databases, Microsoft environments, and data center operations
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-moving environment focused on continuous improvement
  • Willingness to share technical and industry knowledge
  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and time-management abilities
  • Experience diagnosing issues and developing creative solutions
  • Ability to learn quickly and become proficient with varied technologies and techniques
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and client commitments at the same time
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to lead work and take ownership of responsibilities
  • Ability to participate in technical discussions with technical support teams
  • Legal authorization to work full-time in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Preferred experience with PowerShell, C# automation, Splunk, Dynatrace, Apigee, TFS/Azure DevOps, Windows Server, Linux Server, and Microsoft Office
