  • Create and prototype open-world environments from initial blockout through gameplay-ready implementation
  • Balance visual spectacle with engaging moment-to-moment gameplay
  • Shape the layout and flow of large spaces through sightlines, landmarks, traversal routes, choke points, and pacing
  • Build critical paths, alternate routes, shortcuts, and traversal options that support varied playstyles
  • Create and refine Points of Interest, defining their purpose, encounter structure, rewards, and place in the player’s broader journey
  • Implement interactive environmental gameplay, including traversal mechanics, destructibles, hazards, puzzles, and systemic interactions
  • Prototype rapidly in-engine with scripting, visual scripting, or code, emphasizing playable builds over documentation
  • Communicate design intent and prototypes to leads, stakeholders, and cross-functional partners
  • Respond constructively to critique
  • Develop content through iterative, feedback-led production from early concepts to polished, playable experiences

  • Mid-level to lead-level experience
  • A portfolio demonstrating the design of large, non-linear spaces, including both layout and gameplay work
  • Strong knowledge of player navigation, visual communication, and guiding players without relying heavily on UI or explicit instructions
  • Practical Unreal Engine or Unity prototyping experience, including blockout, terrain and landscape, and gameplay scripting tools
  • Proficiency with visual scripting such as Blueprints and/or C#, C++, Lua, or Python
  • Experience creating Points of Interest, encounters, or activities and integrating them into cohesive worlds
  • Strong understanding of gameplay systems design across traversal, combat, AI, and exploration
  • Ability to balance creative goals against technical constraints including memory, streaming, draw distance, and content budgets
  • Excellent communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
  • Comfort working iteratively, incorporating feedback, and developing prototypes into polished playable content
  • Passion for exploration-driven games and a clear perspective on what makes a world compelling to explore
  • Bonus: At least one shipped open-world or large-scale exploration game
  • Bonus: Experience with procedural or semi-procedural tools such as Houdini, PCG, or world-building tools
  • Bonus: Background in systemic or emergent design
