Systems Engineering Manager — Remote, United States

Lead teams and service delivery across Microsoft 365, identity, monitoring, and shared infrastructure platforms. Oversee vendors, technical operations, software tooling, lifecycle management, and continuous service improvement.

Description

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team supporting enterprise infrastructure, application services, documentation, vendor coordination, operational improvement, and customer-focused support.
  • Manage delivery and lifecycle coordination for Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, monitoring and observability platforms, patching, Azure AVD/VDI, certificate management, and related shared infrastructure.
  • Own inventories and ongoing stewardship for third-party applications and software tools used by software engineering teams.
  • Document how third-party applications, engineering tools, and infrastructure services support products, development workflows, integrations, and operational support.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, product, architecture, security, procurement, vendor management, service desk, operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Establish service dependencies, architecture standards, technical handoffs, escalation routes, ownership boundaries, operational readiness criteria, and lifecycle plans.
  • Convert service standards into procedures, runbooks, ticket workflows, monitoring responses, patch schedules, certificate renewal tasks, user communications, and repeatable support practices.
  • Increase software tool utilization, feature adoption, process efficiency, and value realization.
  • Maintain service documentation, application inventories, integration records, ownership details, vendor contacts, support procedures, license and renewal data, upgrade plans, knowledge articles, and handoff materials.
  • Coordinate infrastructure changes, patching, upgrades, deployments, certificate renewals, access updates, monitoring enhancements, and maintenance windows.
  • Monitor service performance, incident trends, adoption, license utilization, application risk, vendor support, documentation gaps, lifecycle issues, and improvement opportunities, reporting recommendations to leadership.
  • Conduct one-to-one meetings, provide performance feedback, set goals, coordinate staffing, support career development, and plan succession for direct reports.
  • Demonstrate clear communication, accountability, sound judgment, urgency, security awareness, and customer-focused service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, business information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, technical experience, service management, and leadership experience.
  • At least five years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure services, enterprise applications, technical service management, software tooling administration, or a related enterprise IT role.
  • At least three years of experience leading, managing, supervising, mentoring, or coordinating technical teams responsible for infrastructure, applications, software tools, or operational support.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Windows Server, identity lifecycle processes, access administration, group policy concepts, and enterprise collaboration and identity services.
  • Experience coordinating patching, monitoring, alerting, observability, certificate management, Azure AVD/VDI, endpoint or infrastructure dependencies, operational readiness, and recurring maintenance.
  • Experience managing third-party application, engineering tool, SaaS, or vendor-supported software inventories, including ownership, usage context, vendor contacts, support agreements, renewals, versions, upgrades, and documentation.
  • Ability to understand and document how infrastructure, third-party applications, engineering tools, integrations, and vendor platforms support products, workflows, security requirements, and operations.
  • Experience handling incident response, escalations, change records, implementation planning, service requests, documentation, service catalogs, application inventories, and technical risk through ITSM platforms such as Jira Service Management.
  • Experience with monitoring, reporting, analytics, utilization, or observability platforms such as DataDog, SolarWinds, Azure Monitor, Microsoft 365 admin reporting, SaaS administration portals, or similar tools.
  • Ability to prioritize competing technical and operational needs and communicate effectively with leadership, technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop team members, improve engineering practices, reinforce accountability, manage technical debt, and maintain reliable service delivery.
  • Preferred: experience leading distributed or remote teams.
  • Preferred: experience with Okta, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, group policy, privileged access, and account lifecycle processes.
  • Preferred: experience with PowerShell or other scripting and automation tools.
  • Preferred: experience with software asset management, vendor governance, tool rationalization, license optimization, application lifecycle planning, feature adoption campaigns, service catalogs, or technology value realization.
  • Preferred: experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven environments.
  • Preferred: relevant certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, AWS, VMware, Nutanix, NetApp, Check Point, ITIL, or equivalent credentials.
