Senior Manager, Data Science – Model Risk Office, Chicago Onsite

Lead model risk analytics for Capital One’s credit-card underwriting models. Apply machine learning, statistical governance, and large-scale financial data analysis to strengthen model performance and decision-making.

Description

  • Protect the company from model failures while identifying opportunities to improve model-driven decisions.
  • Review and oversee models supporting Capital One credit-card underwriting.
  • Apply modeling, statistical, monitoring, and analytical methods to govern data science models and advance business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver customer-focused products.
  • Use Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and related technologies to analyze large volumes of numeric and textual data.
  • Develop machine learning models from initial design through training, evaluation, validation, and deployment.
  • Convert complex technical work into clear, measurable business objectives.
  • Investigate emerging technologies and apply advanced methods to model risk and data science challenges.

Requirements

  • Hold, or be pursuing by the scheduled start date, a required quantitative degree.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field and 7 years of data analytics experience; a master’s degree or MBA with a quantitative concentration and 5 years of experience; or a quantitative PhD and 2 years of experience.
  • Bring at least 2 years of experience using open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis.
  • Have at least 2 years of machine learning experience.
  • Have at least 2 years of experience working with relational databases.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience developing data science solutions with open-source tools and cloud platforms.
  • Have experience building, validating, and backtesting models.
  • Have experience with clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning.
  • Be able to retrieve, combine, and analyze data from diverse sources and structures.
  • Capital One will consider sponsoring a qualified new applicant for employment authorization.
  • Preferred: PhD in STEM with 4 years of data analytics experience.
  • Preferred: at least 1 year of AWS experience.
  • Preferred: at least 1 year of people-management experience.
  • Preferred: at least 5 years using Python, Scala, or R for large-scale data analysis.
  • Preferred: at least 5 years of machine learning experience.
