Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Document and Vision Intelligence at GEICO (Hybrid)

GEICO is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to build document and computer vision intelligence systems. The role leads scalable AI solutions for insurance operations, from design and deployment through monitoring and improvement.

Description

  • Develop machine learning models, services, and components that address real-world business needs
  • Create production-ready code for machine learning models delivered through services and APIs
  • Partner with product, data engineering, and software development teams to bring machine learning solutions into production
  • Build and maintain scalable data-processing pipelines and model deployment infrastructure
  • Investigate model performance issues, monitor metrics, and deliver ongoing improvements
  • Use modern machine learning, generative AI, large language model, agentic workflow, and AI engineering tools
  • Lead complex machine learning initiatives across business units
  • Design and build infrastructure for automated model training, hyperparameter optimization, and deployment
  • Coach and support junior engineers
  • Take ownership of end-to-end model monitoring, maintenance, and retraining systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, machine learning, statistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline
  • At least three years applying machine learning methods such as ensemble learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, generative AI, or related techniques
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, evaluating, and deploying production machine learning systems, including experimentation, evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement
  • At least three years using SQL, Spark or comparable distributed data-processing tools, Python, and frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn
  • At least three years working with cloud platforms or environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Databricks, and/or Snowflake, plus Kubernetes
  • At least two years applying machine learning techniques in production to solve business problems
  • Ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly, collaborate with product and business stakeholders, and work effectively in ambiguous environments
  • Strong knowledge of advanced machine learning algorithms, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, generative AI, and modern AI engineering practices
  • Proficiency in statistical modeling, probability theory, and hypothesis testing
  • Strong programming ability, including Python and experience with TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Deep knowledge of MLOps practices, including model versioning, A/B testing, and continuous deployment
  • Deep knowledge of Azure, AWS, or GCP, distributed systems, Spark, and Kafka
  • Experience leading machine learning projects, managing stakeholders, and scaling production ML solutions
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong product and business judgment
  • Ability to use large language models, agents, and modern AI tools effectively
