SRE Engineering Manager | Civica US | United Kingdom Remote
Lead site reliability engineering for Civica’s cloud-native public-sector software, focusing on observability, resilience, and incident response. Manage engineers while strengthening secure, scalable SaaS operations.
Description
- Develop and continuously improve SRE practices across the engineering team
- Drive measurable gains in availability, performance, and incident response
- Work with Platform and LiveOps teams to build and operate secure, efficient, scalable systems
- Implement metrics, tracing, and logging across services using observability platforms
- Maintain on-call readiness and facilitate blameless post-incident reviews
- Apply incident-response insights to engineering and product planning
- Advance infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices with Terraform, GitHub Actions, Ansible, Packer, and Kubernetes
- Define and refine SLOs, on-call models, toil-reduction initiatives, and production-readiness standards
- Evaluate architecture proposals and develop reliability-focused prototypes
- Investigate complex production incidents and balance delivery speed, resilience, and cost
- Surface systemic reliability concerns and prioritise technical-debt reduction
- Coach engineers while promoting psychological safety, curiosity, and accountability
- Partner with Security and Compliance to incorporate SOC 2, ISO 27001, and PCI requirements
Requirements
- Demonstrated success leading SRE, DevOps, cloud engineering, or software engineering teams, typically of five or more engineers, in a SaaS or complex multi-product environment
- Strong grounding in cloud architecture across AWS, Azure, GCP, or equivalent platforms, including hybrid-cloud and migration patterns
- Able to read and assess application and infrastructure code
- Hands-on ability to write automation, troubleshoot distributed systems, and make informed architecture decisions
- Solid experience with observability tools and incident-management practices, including monitoring, tracing, and alerting
- Experienced in using observability data to diagnose real-world production issues
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills when working with Product, Platform, Security, Support, and LiveOps stakeholders
- Strong mentoring capabilities
- Commitment to reliability and user experience as core engineering values
- Experience with large-scale, multi-tenant SaaS platforms or hybrid-cloud migrations is advantageous
- Familiarity with ITIL or incident-command frameworks adapted to modern SRE practices is advantageous
- Working knowledge of Grafana, Datadog, ELK, and Prometheus is advantageous
- Experience collaborating with globally distributed teams is advantageous
- Software-development experience and strong understanding of the software lifecycle are advantageous
