Part-Time Payroll Specialist – Canada & U.S. Remote

Part-time Payroll Specialist responsible for accurate Canadian and U.S. payroll processing. The role supports HR operations, tax compliance, audits, reconciliations, and payroll system transitions.

Description

  • Run recurring payroll cycles for employees across Canada and the United States
  • Review and process payroll updates covering hires, terminations, compensation, bonuses, deductions, benefits, and employee information
  • Import timekeeping records, reconcile timecard data, and correct discrepancies
  • Investigate employee payroll issues and answer payroll-related questions from HR
  • Administer vacation, sick time, paid time off, leaves, disability, unpaid leave, returns from leave, final pay, and vacation payouts
  • Prepare Records of Employment and other required Canadian payroll documents
  • Calculate and remit payroll taxes, statutory deductions, and employer contributions
  • Complete payroll tax filings, reconciliations, government reporting, and year-end forms such as T4s, RL-1s, and W-2s
  • Produce payroll reports and supporting documentation for Finance, Human Resources, audits, and internal stakeholders
  • Safeguard payroll controls and confidential employee information
  • Assist with payroll account reconciliations and HR, payroll, and timekeeping system implementations or transitions
  • Work with external payroll providers, government agencies, benefits providers, and other partners

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on Quebec payroll experience, preferably covering both Canadian and U.S. payroll
  • Professional speaking and writing proficiency in French and English
  • Strong understanding of Quebec payroll procedures, taxation, statutory deductions, year-end processing, and compliance requirements
  • Experience processing payroll with Desjardins / Employer D
  • Working knowledge of U.S. payroll procedures, taxes, deductions, and year-end requirements
  • Experience using timekeeping systems and reconciling imported timecard data
  • Background processing vacation, leaves of absence, terminations, and other employee lifecycle changes from a payroll perspective
  • Payroll or HRIS implementation, conversion, or system transition experience is a strong asset
  • Experience supporting payroll audits and preparing reconciliations and reports
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with payroll data
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines
