  • Check claims for accuracy and completeness before submission, covering patient and insurance details, provider information, coding, modifiers, place of service, and other billing requirements.
  • Submit clean claims to commercial insurers, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care payors.
  • Track claim status and follow up on unpaid, underpaid, rejected, and denied claims.
  • Investigate denials and rejections, find root causes, make corrections, file reconsiderations or appeals, and track claims to resolution.
  • Manage accounts receivable and aging reports according to established timelines and priorities.
  • Review payor remittances and Explanation of Benefits or Explanation of Payment documents for payment discrepancies, denials, recoupments, and related issues.
  • Identify underpayments and reimbursement discrepancies, then escalate them or pursue resolution.
  • Correct and resubmit claims when billing errors or payor requirements call for changes.
  • Contact insurers about eligibility, claim status, authorization, reimbursement, and other billing matters.
  • Keep clear, complete records of billing follow-up and actions taken.
  • Spot recurring denial patterns, payor issues, and workflow problems, and share trends with Revenue Cycle leadership.
  • Work with clinical, operations, credentialing, and revenue cycle teams to address issues affecting claims or reimbursement.
  • Stay current on payor billing rules and changes that affect reimbursement.
  • Assist with billing audits, reconciliations, and other revenue cycle initiatives as needed.
  • Performance is measured by timely, accurate clean-claim submissions; effective accounts receivable resolution; fewer denials; recovered underpayments; thorough documentation; independent issue resolution; and process improvement ideas.

  • Maintain permanent residence in the United States.
  • At least five years of hands-on medical billing and accounts receivable experience.
  • Substantial experience managing claims through the full billing cycle, from initial submission to final payment or resolution.
  • Experience billing commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid.
  • Strong knowledge of claim submission, rejection resolution, denial management, appeals, accounts receivable follow-up, and payor reimbursement.
  • Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, place-of-service rules, and standard healthcare billing terminology.
  • Experience with payor portals, clearinghouses, and electronic health record or practice management systems.
  • Ability to investigate complex billing issues and decide on appropriate next steps independently.
  • Careful attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies or errors that may affect reimbursement.
  • Ability to prioritize high-volume work and consistently follow claims through resolution.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-moving remote environment.
  • Receptive to constructive feedback and able to act on it.
  • Interest in improving mental health care delivery.
  • Behavioral health, psychiatry, or mental health billing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Billing experience with psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluations, crisis services, and evaluation and management services is preferred.
  • Experience in a multi-state healthcare or telehealth organization is preferred.
  • Experience with both fee-for-service Medicaid and Medicaid managed care is preferred.
  • Experience identifying denial trends and contributing to process improvements is preferred.
  • CPC, CPB, or another relevant billing or coding certification is a plus; equivalent hands-on experience is acceptable.
  • Previous remote work experience is preferred.
