Senior Procurement and Category Manager, Total Rewards and Benefits (Remote)

Lead procurement strategy for HR total rewards, benefits, and payroll categories at the American Red Cross. Manage sourcing, suppliers, contracts, risk, and savings in a fully remote role serving an East Coast schedule.

Description

  • Lead end-to-end category strategy, sourcing, and supplier management for HR total rewards and payroll spend.
  • Create and implement multi-year category plans using market intelligence, spend analysis, and stakeholder priorities.
  • Direct complex RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes for benefits carriers, payroll and HRIS platforms, and related services.
  • Negotiate provider contracts, pricing, and service-level agreements.
  • Oversee supplier relationships and performance through QBRs, scorecards, and SLA governance.
  • Deliver cost savings, cost avoidance, and process improvements while tracking and reporting savings goals.
  • Serve as the primary procurement partner to HR, Total Rewards, and Payroll leaders.
  • Evaluate and reduce financial, operational, data privacy, security, ERISA, ACA, and state payroll compliance risks.
  • Administer the contract lifecycle, including renewals, amendments, and terminations.
  • Mentor or support junior category managers and analysts as needed.
  • Participate actively in virtual meetings, including frequent camera use.
  • Work fully remotely from home on an East Coast schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply management, human resources, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive procurement or category management experience, including HR/HCM, benefits, payroll, or related professional services sourcing.
  • Proven success negotiating large and complex service contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of the HR total rewards and payroll vendor market, including Workday, Alight, and benefits carriers.
  • Understanding of data privacy and compliance requirements for HR and payroll information.
  • Advanced analytical ability, including spend analysis, total-cost-of-ownership modeling, and business case development.
  • Strong negotiation skills involving pay-for-performance structures and shared-risk terms.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional meetings, deliver clear presentations, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Sound business judgment and knowledge of organizational structures, processes, and information flows across multiple lines of business.
  • Daily video presence and frequent camera use are required for meetings.
  • A professional workspace is required for remote work.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable.
  • CPSM, CPM, or comparable procurement certification is preferred.
  • Experience with HCM, HRIS, or payroll systems from a sourcing and vendor-selection perspective is preferred.
  • Previous shared services or enterprise procurement experience is preferred.
  • Commitment to the nonprofit sector and its values is preferred.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, relevant software, and office equipment for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to respond to sudden and unpredictable operational needs.
