Indigenous Mexican Language Interpreter - Boston, MA (Part-Time, Onsite)

Part-time legal interpreters provide English and Indigenous Mexican language services for Cayuse Holdings. The role supports courts, immigration matters, and other legal proceedings in Boston.

Description

  • Deliver accurate, impartial, consecutive, and simultaneous interpretation between parties in legal and related settings.
  • Interpret court hearings, pretrials, probation hearings, sentencing, jail visits, forensic interviews, immigration and human trafficking matters, trials, depositions, arraignments, conferences, and other legal proceedings.
  • Support cross-cultural understanding by explaining nonverbal cues and culture-specific concepts.
  • Preserve the meaning, intent, and tone of spoken communication.
  • Protect strict confidentiality and impartiality throughout all assignments.
  • Complete required documentation, logs, and reports.
  • Follow applicable laws, government customer policies, and professional conduct standards.
  • Report to the Deputy Program Manager.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • At least three years of experience with court interpretation, immigration, trafficking, or hearings.
  • Native or near-native English fluency plus fluency in one Indigenous Mexican language: Nahuatl, Yucatec Maya, Tzeltal, Tzotzil, Mixtec, Zapotec, or Otomi.
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Court certification in Boston, Massachusetts is preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multifunctional team.
  • Ability to relay spoken information accurately.
  • Willingness to work onsite and travel to different locations for in-person interpretation.
  • Availability to be on call and respond to potential job notifications within 48 hours.
  • Proficiency with computers and office productivity tools.
  • Ability to sit and perform duties for extended periods.
  • Availability for flexible and nonstandard hours as needed.
