Senior Managing Communications Associate at Carbon180 (Remote, US)

Lead Carbon180’s communications work by turning complex carbon-removal policy and science into clear, engaging content. Oversee public education, digital channels, media support, fundraising communications, and performance measurement.

Description

  • Develop and manage content supporting Carbon180’s policy, science, and program priorities
  • Write and edit blogs, explainers, one-pagers, newsletters, and social media content
  • Oversee newsletter production in partnership with program staff
  • Manage editorial calendars while maintaining brand voice, quality standards, style guides, and internal communications resources
  • Make technical policy, scientific, and program information accessible to broad audiences
  • Prepare press releases, statements, media advisories, and talking points
  • Support media inquiries, coverage monitoring, spokesperson preparation, and event communications
  • Create fundraising emails, appeals, campaign materials, funder communications, reports, and webinars
  • Develop supporter pipelines and manage donor audience segmentation
  • Direct delivery of Carbon180’s public education campaign on carbon removal
  • Coordinate weekly content production across web, social, video, and email channels
  • Recruit and coach colleagues who contribute on camera or in writing
  • Maintain the campaign website
  • Define success metrics, monitor results, and refine communications plans
  • Manage social channels, publishing, analytics, and short-form video for Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Lead SEO and GEO initiatives and maintain content on carbon180.org
  • Analyze the communications landscape and target audiences
  • Conduct communications impact reviews twice each year
  • Prepare performance reports for program, development, and leadership teams
  • Represent Carbon180 in meetings, conferences, advocacy activities, and relevant in-person engagements
  • Report to the Director of Communications

Requirements

  • Six to ten years of experience in communications, marketing, content production, journalism, or advocacy for government, nonprofit, or related organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to write effectively for blogs, social media, and fundraising email
  • Ability to assess trends and challenges and contribute to strategy, research, or policy recommendations
  • Practical knowledge of social media management and performance analytics
  • Familiarity with email marketing and CRM platforms; Carbon180 uses Mailchimp and Salesforce
  • Experience working across teams and offering guidance to peers
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex subjects to varied audiences
  • Experience representing a team in meetings and stakeholder discussions
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice (DEIBJ)
  • Climate or carbon-removal experience is welcome but not required
  • Experience communicating with donor audiences is welcome but not required
  • WordPress experience is welcome but not required
  • Video production experience and familiarity with relevant tools are welcome but not required
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote-first setting and join in-person engagements when appropriate
