Online Tutor

Tutor students in grades 6–12 at Elev8’s tuition-free virtual public schools in California. Provide individualized academic instruction, technical help, and support for student engagement.

Description

  • Tutor students one-on-one or in small groups across subject areas.
  • Help students understand course material and complete their courses.
  • Build students’ literacy and technology skills, and help them access online courses.
  • Provide basic technical assistance with online course setup and access.
  • Use student notes, discussions, teacher guidance, and coursework to identify topics that need instruction or review.
  • Review student binders, calendars, class notes, text notes, and book notes.
  • Maintain an orderly learning environment and apply discipline in line with policies.
  • Teach brief lessons on writing, study skills, and course preparation.
  • Lead brainstorming, idea clustering, and peer review activities.
  • Coordinate with teachers on course outlines, assignment schedules, student progress, and concerns.
  • Contact students and parents through company technology to support outreach and retention.
  • Review students’ course schedules and periodically assist with tests and assessments.
  • Help instructional staff maintain discipline and encourage positive student behavior.
  • Safeguard students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Complete required tutor training and follow school and district policies.
  • Carry out assigned administrative tasks and activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of college coursework (48 units), an associate degree or higher from an accredited state college, or a passing score on the California Basic Education Skills Test or another state or local academic assessment for instructional assistants.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to meet student and school needs.
  • Knowledge of standard office and educational software.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel as required for the role.
  • Knowledge of math and reading teaching methods preferred.
  • Bilingual speaking skills desired.
  • Demonstrated interest in a teaching career desired.
