Tutor students in Elev8 Online Schools’ tuition-free virtual California public schools. Provide academic, literacy, technology, and course access support.

Description

  • Tutor students individually or in small groups across academic subjects.
  • Help students understand course material and complete their coursework.
  • Support literacy, technology use, and access to online courses.
  • Assist students with basic technical issues when setting up or accessing online courses.
  • Use student notes, discussions, teacher guidance, and completed work to identify topics that need instruction or review.
  • Review student binders, calendars, class notes, text notes, and book notes.
  • Manage learning environments and apply discipline in line with school policies.
  • Lead short lessons on writing, study skills, and preparing for courses.
  • Guide students through brainstorming and idea-clustering activities.
  • Facilitate peer feedback groups in subject-area labs.
  • Work with teachers on course plans, assignment timelines, student progress, and concerns.
  • Contact students and parents about school programs, outreach, and student retention.
  • Review student schedules and assist with tests and assessments.
  • Help instructional staff promote positive behavior and manage discipline.
  • Follow school rules and policies, meet attendance requirements, and complete required training.

Requirements

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of college (48 units); an associate degree or higher from an accredited state college; or pass a state or local assessment of academic knowledge and instructional skills, such as the California Basic Educational Skills Test.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Adapt to student and school needs.
  • Know standard office and educational computer programs.
  • Use basic computer tools and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Be able to travel as required for job duties.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and reading instructional techniques is preferred.
  • Bilingual speaking ability is desired.
  • An expressed interest in a teaching career is desired.
