Online Social Studies Teacher (California, Part-Time)

Teach social studies online for Holston Academy, tailoring instruction to students’ needs and progress. Use assessments, targeted support, and regular communication with students and families to advance learning.

Description

  • Design and deliver individualized online instruction using the provided curriculum and learning resources.
  • Apply instructional materials, student data, and technology to support learning.
  • Contribute to school-wide efforts to improve teaching and learning.
  • Work with instructional colleagues and school staff to support students’ academic plans.
  • Uphold the school’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Give students useful, timely feedback on assignments through the learning management system.
  • Teach online or in person using effective virtual education practices.
  • Create additional learning materials suited to individual student needs.
  • Welcome newly enrolled students within one business day.
  • Help students set goals and track their progress.
  • Work with the academic coach, parents, and students to select suitable courses.
  • Coordinate with teachers in other departments to tailor the curriculum.
  • Build a respectful classroom culture with high expectations.
  • Set and explain clear learning goals and content standards.
  • Record student progress and communications in the student information system.
  • Use focused interventions to help students succeed.
  • Contact students and parents at least weekly by phone, text, email, or other electronic methods.
  • Take part in staff meetings every two weeks.
  • Review and assess submitted coursework within 48 business hours.
  • Give and grade assessments, offering feedback and opportunities to retry for mastery.
  • Keep student records in line with administrative requirements.
  • Complete assigned administrative tasks and activities.
  • Report to the head of school or their designee.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required.
  • A valid state teaching credential is preferred, but not required.
  • Teaching experience is required.
  • Experience teaching online is preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-growing, changing environment.
  • Service-oriented approach and commitment to student achievement.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other technology tools.
  • Ability to travel as required for the role.
  • Knowledge of educational programs, particularly in private and online schools.
  • Ability to learn student information and learning management systems.
  • Ability to encourage students and parents to work toward good academic standing.
  • Ability to work with students from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, detailed reports focused on student progress.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply moderately complex information.
  • Math proficiency at the high school level.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to use a computer and office equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
