Senior Business Development Manager – California Remote

Senior business development leader responsible for expanding Del Monte Foods’ grocery business across Northern California accounts. The role focuses on merchandising, pricing, assortment, shelving, trade investment, and customer growth.

Description

  • Deliver fiscal-year financial results and AOP sales metrics through an aligned trade-spend plan.
  • Set customer-specific objectives that support Del Monte’s strategic plan.
  • Meet assigned-customer goals for new items, assortment, pricing, and merchandising.
  • Lead Joint Business Planning partnerships with customers.
  • Deliver annual and key-event merchandising targets.
  • Achieve new-item goals and manage everyday pricing in GTMS.
  • Increase and maintain GDP share relative to SOM in key segments.
  • Implement assortment and shelving initiatives and conduct customer category reviews to strengthen shelf presence.
  • Grow market share across designated categories and sub-categories.
  • Coordinate shopper marketing programs when applicable.
  • Mobilize cross-functional partners across Business Units, Customer Development, Shopper Marketing, Finance, and Supply Chain.
  • Use Category Management & Insights, Shopper Marketing, Customer Finance, and Business Intelligence Analytics to develop the business.
  • Convert Del Monte consumer strategies into customer-level business plans.
  • Coordinate and participate in customer sales, review, and innovation presentations.
  • Partner on presentation materials and insights for customer business meetings.
  • Set a regular meeting cadence with Category Managers, Coordinators, Directors, and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
  • 5–10 years of regional or headquarters retail sales experience in consumer packaged goods or with a broker.
  • Ability to direct and execute all elements of the fiscal-year sales plan.
  • Ability to create and execute a strategic business plan that grows profitable volume year over year.
  • Ability to set customer priorities, objectives, and strategies based on marketplace conditions.
  • Ability to manage retail execution for optimal shelf presence and retail conditions.
  • Ability to review DMFI GTMS with customers to support understanding and compliance.
  • Ability to provide strategic input to AOP planning, with emphasis on trade marketing strategy and tactics.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and work with Customer Development to tailor plans.
  • Ability to manage trade spend and funds effectively.
  • Ability to evaluate post-promotional performance and adjust promotions.
  • Ability to assess and pursue innovative incremental growth opportunities.
  • Ability to manage the business through a customer-aligned strategic scorecard.
  • Ability to coordinate internal resources to resolve promotion-related deductions and forecast promotional demand.
  • Ability to use cross-functional support from Sales Finance, Supply Chain, Category Leadership, and Customer Development.
  • Ability to analyze customer, category, and channel data and turn it into insights and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated success in retail grocery with consumer packaged goods or broker experience.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Nielsen or other syndicated data, and PowerPoint.
