Associate Director, Business Development - Japan (Remote)

Lead strategic sales, partnerships, complex deals, and account growth for Emerald Clinical Trials in Japan. Mentor business development professionals supporting biotech and pharmaceutical clients.

Description

  • Shape and execute sales strategies for assigned therapeutic areas or customer segments
  • Manage an active sales-opportunity portfolio worth AUD$8–12 million annually
  • Identify strategic growth initiatives and opportunities to expand into new markets
  • Act as a strategic advisor to key sponsors and stakeholders
  • Create account strategies, lead complex negotiations, and manage C-level sponsor relationships
  • Direct major proposals and RFP responses for strategic opportunities
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams in developing competitive proposals
  • Close complex deals involving substantial contract values
  • Track therapeutic developments, funding trends, and competitor activity
  • Deliver strategic analysis and insights that support company positioning
  • Provide leadership with competitive intelligence and market updates
  • Lead and coach 1–3 business development professionals in strategy, sales methods, and career growth
  • Work with colleagues to achieve shared sales goals and support individual development
  • Keep CRM records for opportunities and account activity complete and accurate
  • Prepare monthly strategic sales reports, including pipeline analysis and forecasts
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and strategic networking events
  • Develop and sustain relationships with key decision-makers and thought leaders
  • Collaborate with clinical, operations, marketing, and regional leaders on strategic initiatives
  • Confirm that proposals and commitments reflect company capabilities and strategic direction

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, pharmacy, business, or a related discipline
  • MBA or advanced degree such as an MSc or PhD strongly preferred
  • Six to eight years of professional experience in sales, business development, or a related field
  • Four to six years of experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, CROs, or clinical research
  • At least two years of experience leading business development professionals
  • Advanced consultative selling and complex stakeholder-management skills
  • Strong strategic judgment and commercial acumen
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence C-level stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and sales analytics
  • Technological proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to maintain a broad strategic perspective while attending to detail and quality
  • Flexibility and adaptability in changing priorities and ambiguous work environments
