Remote General Manager, Value-Added Services – Manulife

Lead Manulife’s non-timber revenue strategy across managed forest assets in this remote North Carolina role. Oversee environmental projects, asset management, risk, and North American teams.

Description

  • Set strategic direction and provide oversight for non-timber revenue activities on client assets
  • Create and monetize non-timber revenue streams across client lands
  • Identify new business opportunities while managing financial and environmental project risks
  • Oversee more than $100 million in annual transactions across North America
  • Build team members’ skills and capabilities
  • Own and deliver projects that expand revenue from client assets
  • Report to the President of MFM
  • Develop opportunities guided by the principle “Good Stewardship is Good Business”
  • Lead a North American VAS team with four direct reports
  • Collaborate regularly with Portfolio Management and Client Services, Global Resources and Planning, Operations, and Accounting
  • Safeguard client fiduciary obligations
  • Prioritize employee safety and environmental stewardship
  • Maintain service-focused relationships with MFM and MIMT personnel
  • Address information and communication needs across multiple regional teams
  • Provide leadership for approximately nine employees
  • Create and implement a recreation strategy
  • Oversee revenue projects involving carbon and wetland mitigation banks, mineral and aggregate sales, water filtration and storage, pine straw, and renewable energy
  • Develop internal talent to identify non-core revenue opportunities
  • Oversee safety, stewardship, SFI® and FSC® compliance, marketing, planning, recreational use, and protection for non-core revenue projects
  • Manage assets, including acquisitions and dispositions
  • Lead communications with stakeholders, public relations contacts, regulators, industry groups, and government entities
  • Support policy development and implementation
  • Oversee regional client accounting, including general ledger, payables, receivables, taxes, financial accounting, debt management, and cash flow
  • Collaborate with the Resource Support Team on forest inventory, planning, and modeling interfaces
  • Take part in regional industry associations and committees
  • Handle other assigned responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental field or equivalent experience
  • Graduate degree in an environmental discipline or business management is strongly preferred
  • Experience working with oversight agencies for non-core revenue projects, including wetland mitigation banks
  • At least 10 years of combined environmental project management experience
  • At least 10 years of organizational management and leadership experience in a large, complex organization
  • Proven ability to lead teams, collaborate across functions, and work effectively with minimal direction
  • Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication abilities
  • Strong analytical, financial, and technology capabilities
  • Strong asset management expertise
  • Customer-focused approach
  • Ability to comply with federal, state, and local laws and organizational policies and procedures
