Part-Time Remote Game Developer – Console Porting in Australia

Develop and port indie games for PlayStation and Xbox on behalf of an Australian publishing studio. Build features, troubleshoot performance and technical issues, and support console certification.

Description

  • Adapt existing indie games for PlayStation and Xbox release
  • Fulfil platform-specific technical and certification standards
  • Create and implement gameplay features, mechanics, and interactive systems
  • Develop and maintain projects in GameMaker Studio 2, Unreal Engine, Unity, or comparable tools
  • Turn game concepts and technical requirements into working gameplay
  • Produce clear, maintainable, well-organised code
  • Test and troubleshoot gameplay, performance, technical, and console-related issues
  • Work closely with designers, artists, indie development partners, and other contributors
  • Integrate assets, animation, audio, interface elements, and related game components
  • Improve gameplay and system performance for console hardware
  • Assess games created by other developers and offer technical and design feedback
  • Iterate on builds in response to testing, feedback, and certification requirements
  • Keep documentation current and report regularly on porting and development progress

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience porting or adapting games for PlayStation or Xbox, or strong game development experience with the ability to learn console porting and certification workflows
  • Practical familiarity with PlayStation consoles
  • Familiarity with Xbox consoles is preferred
  • Experience with PlayStation Partners or the ID@Xbox developer programs is helpful but not essential
  • Experience using GameMaker Studio 2, Unreal Engine, Unity, or a comparable development platform
  • Working knowledge of GML, C#, and/or Python
  • Solid understanding of gameplay mechanics, game systems, debugging, and optimisation
  • Experience carrying features from initial concept through development, testing, and refinement
  • Comfort working in existing codebases, including projects created by other developers
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience reviewing other developers’ games or code and providing specific, constructive feedback
  • A portfolio, GitHub profile, playable game, or examples of game development or porting work is highly desirable
  • Availability from 9 AM to 1 PM Sydney time
