Remote Civil Engineer, Construction Estimating

Develop construction estimating and documentation tasks to train frontier AI models. Review AI outputs and produce traceable reference solutions.

Description

  • Create realistic civil engineering tasks grounded in construction and infrastructure workflows.
  • Review tender documents, technical specifications, drawings, schedules, and pricing information.
  • Prepare and check quantity schedules, takeoffs, cost estimates, and project budgets.
  • Select appropriate pricing entries for specified work and verify materials, units, conversions, and scope.
  • Flag conflicting or missing requirements, duplicate items, and omissions, documenting their implications and needed clarifications.
  • Develop reference solutions with traceable calculations, cited sources, and justified assumptions.
  • Assess AI-generated work and independently verify reference answers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with technical contributors to establish reproducible tasks and evaluation criteria.
  • Design realistic civil engineering challenges for advanced AI agents.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Bring substantial professional experience in construction estimating, quantity surveying, tender preparation, or technical project review.
  • Interpret construction specifications, drawings, bills of quantities, and contractual requirements confidently.
  • Know construction methods, materials, and building systems across multiple trades.
  • Use Excel or LibreOffice Calc proficiently, including formulas, unit conversions, and budget reconciliation.
  • Work confidently with lengthy PDF documents and structured data.
  • Separate documented facts from assumptions and identify when clarification is needed.
  • Read current project documentation in Spanish and write fluently in English.
  • Pay close attention to detail and explain technical decisions clearly.
  • Hold professional engineering licensure or a relevant estimating or quantity surveying certification.
  • Have experience preparing or reviewing public procurement bids.
  • Be familiar with estimates for architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, or gas installation work.
  • Have experience with CAD, BIM, digital takeoff tools, Python, or document-processing automation.
  • Have prior experience developing technical assessments, reviewing AI outputs, or contributing to benchmarking projects.
