Specification Sales Manager – UK (Hybrid)

Lead specification sales for Armstrong Fluid Technology’s pumps, HVAC, and digital solutions across UK commercial, district energy, healthcare, industrial, and data centre projects. Influence early design decisions and establish Armstrong products as the Basis of Design.

Description

  • Build and maintain relationships with building owners, operators, developers, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Specify Armstrong products as the Basis of Design for major projects across northern UK
  • Understand customer requirements, identify opportunities, and influence bid criteria during early design stages
  • Pursue opportunities in commercial design-build, district energy, healthcare, industrial, and data centre markets
  • Create tailored solution packages with internal technical and commercial teams
  • Use infrastructure programmes, sustainability initiatives, and energy-efficiency mandates to develop opportunities
  • Represent Armstrong at exhibitions, networking events, CPDs, and professional forums
  • Manage national client relationships and provide technical and commercial support throughout project lifecycles
  • Analyse and share customer insights to inform national strategy
  • Promote Armstrong pumps, HVAC solutions, digital technologies, and energy-efficient systems
  • Create territory plans covering KPIs, growth objectives, and competitive strategies to meet sales targets
  • Use technical expertise and consultative selling to win specifications, close opportunities, and grow market share
  • Keep CRM records current for customer interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activity
  • Track and report market trends, competitor activity, and regional project opportunities
  • Prepare structured activity reports every two weeks
  • Work with engineering, customer service, marketing, and senior management teams
  • Support cross-functional projects that strengthen national presence and strategic growth
  • Participate in trade associations and industry bodies to maintain professional expertise and industry influence

Requirements

  • A university degree in engineering, mechanical engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical sales, business development, and industry experience
  • Substantial experience in technical mechanical specification sales, application engineering, business development, or related HVAC, hydronic, pumping, heat network, district energy, or data centre sectors
  • Experience working with consultants, end users, building owners, developers, contractors, and operators across the project lifecycle
  • A proven record of end-user specification sales and influencing design decisions
  • Experience positioning complex mechanical and digital solutions as the Basis of Design on major projects
  • Familiarity with asset management systems, maintenance methodologies, and performance-focused building operations
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50–60% of the time throughout the region
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building services, pumps, chilled and heating water, heat transfer, hydronic systems, energy-efficient HVAC, district energy networks, and critical cooling infrastructure
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, layouts, specifications, and electrical or hydraulic schematics
  • Experience securing product specifications during early design stages, including RIBA Stages 1–4
  • Highly proficient use of CRM platforms for pipeline management, forecasting, activity analysis, and reporting
  • Experience with technical sales tools, digital platforms, and structured sales processes
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and technical training abilities
  • Ability to deliver CPDs, technical workshops, solution demonstrations, and strategic customer engagement programmes
  • Ability to convert operational, energy, sustainability, resilience, and performance requirements into engineered solutions
  • Advanced analytical and data-driven approach to sales performance, market trends, competition, and specification opportunities
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory requirements, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction initiatives
  • Strong relationship-building, influencing, commercial awareness, pipeline management, forecasting, opportunity qualification, reporting, problem-solving, organisation, planning, adaptability, and customer-focus skills
