Senior Software Engineer, Australia Remote

Build and modernize Marigold’s messaging, cloud, and marketing technology infrastructure. Work with Java, Kafka, AWS, DevOps, and AI-assisted engineering.

Description

  • Develop and maintain robust software with object-oriented principles.
  • Use sound judgment to verify or override AI-generated work.
  • Help set technical direction and lead architecture discussions.
  • Guide teammates through complex technical challenges.
  • Design scalable systems and update legacy platforms.
  • Find responsible ways to use AI automation for code reviews, triage, documentation, and learning.
  • Own and improve Kafka-based messaging and event infrastructure.
  • Work with AWS services including Fargate, Bedrock, EC2, ECS, SNS/SQS, RDS, and Elasticsearch.
  • Use Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and automated deployment tools.
  • Apply SQL and NoSQL skills to build scalable data solutions.
  • Take part in and lead a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Improve reliability and strengthen proactive monitoring.
  • Help shape roadmaps and enhance the developer experience across teams.
  • Review code and support team learning.
  • Maintain durable documentation and architecture records.
  • Work with internal tools teams to improve AI-powered orchestration, review, and triage.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to a collaborative, curious team.

Requirements

  • Bring at least 9 years of software development experience.
  • Have commercial experience with object-oriented Java and at least one other programming language; C# is preferred.
  • Have experience with Kafka or other message bus systems.
  • Have experience building microservices.
  • Bring deep knowledge of system design and scalable architecture.
  • Have cloud technology experience, preferably with AWS.
  • Have a strong background in infrastructure, DevOps, Docker, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
  • Be proficient with SQL and NoSQL systems.
  • Use AI coding or review assistants in daily work.
  • Be able to critically assess AI-assisted output.
  • Work effectively both independently and with a remote team.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and in conversation.
  • Be comfortable mentoring others.
  • Bring a team-oriented, curious approach to problem-solving.
  • Be committed to continuous learning.
  • Be willing to join a rotating on-call schedule.
