Senior Systems Infrastructure Engineer – New York City Hybrid

Senior systems infrastructure engineer responsible for complex incidents across Windows, Microsoft 365, virtualization, networking, and cybersecurity environments. Supports GEM Technologies’ managed IT clients remotely and onsite throughout the New York City metropolitan area.

Description

  • Lead the investigation and resolution of complex infrastructure incidents and escalations
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
  • Support Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments, including identity, authentication, MFA, and Conditional Access
  • Troubleshoot and maintain virtualization environments built on VMware and/or Hyper-V
  • Diagnose networking problems involving firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching, and connectivity
  • Maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity systems
  • Plan and deliver infrastructure migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement or recommend changes to prevent recurring issues
  • Apply PowerShell, scripting, automation, and other tools to improve reliability and operational efficiency
  • Develop and maintain accurate technical documentation
  • Collaborate directly with clients, vendors, and GEM engineers during projects and technical incidents
  • Provide occasional onsite support at client locations across the New York City metropolitan area
  • Support multiple client environments with varied technologies, configurations, and business requirements

Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience supporting production IT infrastructure
  • Strong practical experience with Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Strong practical experience with Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
  • Strong practical experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
  • Experience managing identity, MFA, and Conditional Access
  • Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Experience supporting server and storage infrastructure
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery environments
  • Experience troubleshooting firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, and switching
  • Experience diagnosing network and infrastructure issues
  • Experience with system hardening, EDR, MFA, and related security technologies
  • Strong client communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Broad technical expertise, deep troubleshooting ability, and independence across multiple systems
  • Willingness and ability to provide occasional onsite support at client locations in the New York City metropolitan area
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange Server and hybrid Exchange environments
  • Experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD)
  • Experience with Citrix NetScaler / ADC
  • Advanced experience with VMware infrastructure
  • Advanced networking and firewall troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with Veeam or comparable backup and disaster recovery platforms
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Experience delivering infrastructure migrations and major upgrades
