Field Service Technician I – Canada (Remote)

ZEISS Group is hiring a remote Field Service Technician I in Canada to install, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Coordinate Measuring Machines and other metrology equipment. The role supports Canadian customers through field service, technical documentation, and issue resolution.

Description

  • Complete classroom, online, and hands-on technical training.
  • Build expertise in installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing Coordinate Measuring Machines and related metrology equipment.
  • Support senior technicians with installations, customer service calls, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Carry out assigned service work under supervision and independently once trained.
  • Identify basic mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and system issues.
  • Refer complex technical problems to senior technicians or technical support.
  • Inspect equipment and advise on necessary follow-up work.
  • Use authorized tools, diagnostic equipment, and service methods.
  • Deliver timely, solutions-oriented customer support while reporting service results and equipment condition.
  • Set customer expectations and work with internal teams to resolve concerns.
  • Prepare service reports, work orders, calibration records, expense reports, and related documentation.
  • Keep equipment, service, expense, and inventory records accurate and current.
  • Control assigned tools, spare parts, consumables, and inventory.
  • Work with service, deployment, receiving, and warehouse teams.
  • Comply with health and safety rules, quality standards, security controls, customer-site requirements, and service procedures.
  • Operate company vehicles and material-handling equipment safely.
  • Handle other related responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Fluent written and spoken English and French are required.
  • A college diploma or university degree in electronics, electromechanical engineering technology, industrial mechanics, mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Equivalent technical training combined with relevant hands-on experience may be accepted.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting industrial electronics, mechanical equipment, machinery, or computer-controlled systems is preferred.
  • Experience with CMMs, precision measurement systems, or industrial metrology equipment is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems is required.
  • Customer-service or field-service experience is an asset.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer aptitude.
  • Capacity to learn technical concepts, equipment, software, and service procedures.
  • Basic diagnostic, analytical, and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, diagrams, drawings, and instructions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong customer-service and relationship-building abilities.
  • Effective organization, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to produce accurate service and expense documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
