Payroll Analyst — University of Arkansas System, Little Rock

Process payroll, deductions, tax withholdings, and leave records for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Reconcile accounts, prepare reports, and support Workday payroll operations.

Description

  • Serve internal and external customers with payroll questions.
  • Explain payroll policies and procedures, help train payroll staff, prepare correspondence, and suggest process changes.
  • Enter and calculate personnel data in the payroll system and correct records.
  • Audit payroll records and reconcile them to the general ledger.
  • Research financial data, prepare reports, and process employee demand payments.
  • Process required tax withholdings, direct deposits, and voluntary and involuntary deductions.
  • Coordinate payroll corrections, document filing and imaging, report distribution, and vendor communications.
  • Research approved work hours and time off.
  • Coordinate with departments and Human Resources on terminations and unpaid leave.
  • Distribute payroll reports to HR Benefits and resolve vendor data discrepancies.
  • Reconcile and submit invoices from benefit deduction suppliers.
  • Support system upgrade testing, installation, maintenance, and payroll assistance through ServiceNow.
  • Complete employment verifications.
  • Perform accounting duties and support monthly and year-end closing reconciliations.
  • Train and guide staff as a lead worker and potentially supervise hourly or work-study students.
  • Audit work hours, time off, and leave; help departments manage timekeeping; and conduct vacation and sick leave audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in general business, finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least one year of payroll processing, payroll accounting, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of state payroll processing requirements.
  • Knowledge of standard government accounting principles and database management.
  • Ability to coordinate payroll production.
  • Ability to reconcile and balance payroll documents.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
  • Ability to apply payroll policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to conduct research, perform quantitative quality reviews, and prepare reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to coordinate with staff involved in payroll production.
  • Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
  • Successful criminal background, financial credit, and sex offender registry checks are required.
  • Effective communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability, critical thinking, teamwork, time management, and organizational skills.
