Director of Technical Training and Development

Lead technical training strategy and delivery for Heartland Food Products Group’s manufacturing and distribution operations. Build training programs, certifications, learning materials, and a new technical training center.

Description

  • Lead the Training and Development Center supporting operations and distribution.
  • Oversee new employee orientation, annual compliance training, certifications, professional development, and equipment- and process-specific training materials and SOPs.
  • Create and launch a technical training program for manufacturing operations.
  • Work with leaders across departments to define the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for each position.
  • Design and direct a broad training program centered on technical capability and operational execution.
  • Keep training content aligned with current processes and procedures, including operator and skilled-trades training and certifications.
  • Define the strategic direction for the technical training function.
  • Establish a GMP-compliant training space and install equipment that meets plant food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Choose delivery methods suited to each audience and objective, including online learning, video, virtual reality, role-playing, mentoring, on-the-job training, and professional development classes.
  • Promote training opportunities and explain their career-development value.
  • Conduct organization-wide needs assessments to identify knowledge and skill gaps.
  • Support the development of job descriptions and career paths for hourly and technical professional roles.
  • Maintain compliance with legal requirements and regulatory processes governing technical and procedural training content and delivery.
  • Report to the VP of Operations, Quality and Supply Chain, with a dotted-line relationship to the Senior Director of Operations.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience in consumer packaged goods, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team.
  • Record of implementing adult learning programs in manufacturing, including training for machine operators, skilled trades, quality, and supervisors.
  • Self-directed, entrepreneurial approach with the ability to work independently and across organizational levels in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with learning management systems such as Cornerstone.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to remain seated while using a computer and telephone for extended periods.
  • Availability for extended hours, including daily overtime and occasional weekends.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to document company records.
  • Ability to walk continuously throughout the plant and distribution center.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
