Auto Liability Claims Representative - Baltimore, MD (Hybrid)

Manage moderate-to-complex auto bodily injury liability claims for Travelers, from investigation through settlement and payment. Apply coverage analysis, liability evaluation, reserve management, negotiation, and claim resolution practices.

Description

  • Manage personal and commercial auto bodily injury claims from initial notice of loss through resolution, settlement, and payment.
  • Interpret and apply applicable laws and statutes across multiple state jurisdictions.
  • Provide consistent service throughout the claims process through customer contact, clear explanations, expectation setting, communication, follow-through, and fulfillment of commitments.
  • Evaluate coverage and apply policy conditions, provisions, exclusions, endorsements, benefits, eligibility, limits, deductibles, co-insurance, and coverage priority.
  • Investigate claims to establish coverage, liability, damages, and potential contribution.
  • Collect and assess records, damage documentation, recorded statements, wage-loss details, and essential-services information.
  • Identify and coordinate support from Subrogation, Risk Control, nurse consultants, fire or fraud investigators, and other specialists.
  • Escalate severe matters to the appropriate senior claims professional or Major Case Unit.
  • Set and maintain claim and expense reserves while managing file inventory and diary activities.
  • Calculate settlement values and negotiate resolutions within authorized limits.
  • Use alternative dispute-resolution approaches and prepare denial letters, Reservation of Rights letters, and other correspondence.
  • Handle claims involving both unrepresented parties and attorneys.
  • Manage assigned litigated claims, develop litigation strategies, control legal costs, and attend legal proceedings when necessary.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least one year of bodily injury liability claims experience or comparable liability claims experience, or successful completion of the Travelers Claim Representative training program.
  • Two years of bodily injury liability claims experience is the ideal qualification.
  • General knowledge and practical ability in claims handling and litigation.
  • Basic working knowledge of multiple business-line products.
  • Demonstrated ownership and a customer-focused approach to assigned work.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Careful attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Intermediate keyboarding and Windows skills, including Excel and Word.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate capability in analytical thinking, judgment and decision-making, negotiation, insurance contract principles, investigation methods, valuation, settlement techniques, and medical knowledge.
  • Required insurance licenses may need to be obtained within three months of starting, along with continuing education credits as mandated.
