Associate Director, China Translational Medicine (Beijing, On-site)

Lead oncology biomarker strategy, clinical testing, and China HGR compliance for AstraZeneca’s translational medicine programs in Beijing.

Description

  • Deliver scientifically rigorous biomarkers across multiple oncology trials
  • Create and execute biomarker strategies for oncology studies
  • Analyze clinical trial samples and support prospective testing for trial recruitment
  • Assess emerging technology providers
  • Partner with external laboratories to establish testing quality-control plans and monitor performance
  • Help ensure compliance with China HGR regulations
  • Provide scientific input for academic partnerships
  • Support translational medicine clinical studies specific to China
  • Coordinate patient selection and clinical test setup with partner laboratories
  • Review assay data for quality control and produce study reports
  • Oversee scientific and regulatory translational medicine work conducted by external laboratories and alliance partners
  • Develop clinical translational biomarker plans that satisfy China-specific requirements
  • Contribute to protocol development and recommendations for diagnostic systems, laboratories, and local testing partners
  • Advise clinical project teams on indication selection, biological activity, and patient stratification
  • Ensure complex clinical assays are fit for purpose through local vendor partnerships and global expertise
  • Contribute to study reports, data reviews, interpretations, presentations, publications, and development recommendations
  • Support China HGR submissions and identify applicable training needs
  • Present internal updates on China-specific testing and develop communication plans with TMLs
  • Onboard and train new members of the Translational Medicine group

Requirements

  • MD or PhD degree
  • At least three years of relevant biopharmaceutical industry experience
  • Knowledge of clinical development processes and key translational medicine activities
  • Strong scientific knowledge of oncology and relevant literature
  • Biomarker experience demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience generating and interpreting data for biomarker projects
  • Ability to communicate strategic direction and detailed plans through presentations and progress reports
  • Ability to recognize risks and escalate them appropriately
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to represent Translational Medicine and AstraZeneca internally and externally
  • Excellent organizational skills with a record of delivering high-quality work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Preferred: experience in preclinical research and drug development
  • Preferred: clinical research experience with novel modalities such as RDC, gene therapy, or mRNA vaccines
  • Preferred: scientific background in immuno-oncology or related disciplines
  • Preferred: background in multi-omics data analysis and bioinformatics
  • Preferred: experience with foundational models and their applications in biomedical science
  • Preferred: experience with HGR and patient-selection assay delivery in clinical research or biopharmaceutical trials
