Advise Skillsoft on U.S. and international employment law as Principal Employment Counsel. Lead investigations, litigation, compliance initiatives, and scalable employment practices.

- Advise on recruiting, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations matters.
- Turn complex legal requirements into practical guidance for People Team professionals, managers, and business leaders.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders while developing a strong understanding of Skillsoft’s workforce, priorities, and operating model.
- Draft, review, and update employment agreements, policies, handbooks, notices, investigation materials, and workforce transition documents.
- Assess employment communications for legal risk, clarity, consistency, and alignment with company practices.
- Create templates, playbooks, checklists, and self-service tools for employment matters.
- Evaluate employment policies and practices for compliance gaps and opportunities to standardize processes.
- Provide employment law advice across Skillsoft’s jurisdictions and coordinate with local counsel.
- Track global labor and employment law developments and recommend necessary updates.
- Create tools to identify, prioritize, and manage employment-related legal and compliance risks.
- Advise on and conduct investigations involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, misconduct, conflicts of interest, policy violations, and other sensitive issues.
- Establish investigation plans, privilege arrangements, interim measures, documentation, findings, remediation, and People Team follow-up.
- Recommend corrective actions, remediation steps, process improvements, and retaliation monitoring.
- Manage employment litigation, administrative charges, labor proceedings, pre-litigation disputes, demand letters, and settlement negotiations in the U.S. and internationally.
- Develop case strategies with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
- Select, engage, and oversee external counsel.
- Support Skillsoft’s enterprise compliance program, including ERM, ESG, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain compliance policies, controls, and documentation for ERM and Audit Committee oversight.
- Work with Legal Operations to reduce key-person dependency in compliance readiness.
Cerințe
- At least eight years of professional experience as a corporate attorney.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar association membership.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law.
- Experience handling global or multi-jurisdictional employment and regulatory matters.
- Experience managing local counsel.
- Experience with workplace investigations, employee relations, employment disputes, administrative proceedings, and employment litigation.
- Extensive experience drafting and reviewing employment agreements, separation documents, policies, handbooks, investigation materials, and related documents.
- Experience supporting corporate compliance programs involving policy governance, risk assessments, compliance training, internal controls, investigations, and regulatory initiatives.
- Familiarity with ERM, ESG compliance, audit and compliance governance, and scalable compliance frameworks.
- Ability to recognize legal and regulatory risks and develop practical compliance solutions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across functions, work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple matters.
