Senior Cloud Backend Engineer – AI (Full-Time, Hybrid Germany)
Build Java and Kotlin cloud backends and AI integrations for enterprise clients. Develop APIs, RAG and agent systems, and cloud-based machine learning components.
Description
- Develop cloud-native applications with Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot
- Create REST APIs for enterprise platforms
- Containerize and orchestrate services with Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift
- Build, improve, and maintain CI/CD pipelines
- Modernize and migrate established backend systems
- Develop retrieval-augmented generation systems with LangChain or LangChain4J
- Create MCP servers that connect existing APIs with large language models
- Design agent-based systems and agent-to-agent communication
- Integrate vector databases and embedding technologies
- Deploy and monitor cloud-based AI components using MLOps practices
- Advise enterprise clients on AI integration initiatives
- Make architecture decisions across backend engineering and AI
- Advance internal engineering standards and best practices
Requirements
- At least five years of backend development experience with Java or Kotlin
- Strong expertise in Spring Boot or Jakarta EE
- Practical Kubernetes experience and hands-on use of at least one cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions
- Practical experience with large language models through a personal project, proof of concept, or production deployment
- Understanding of retrieval-augmented generation concepts or the ability to learn them quickly
- Business-fluent German
- Fluent English
- Python knowledge for machine learning or AI components is a plus
- Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or LangChain4J is a plus
- Knowledge of vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant, or ChromaDB is a plus
- Experience with the Model Context Protocol or agent frameworks is a plus
- Experience with prompt engineering or model fine-tuning is a plus
- GitOps experience with ArgoCD or Flux is a plus
- Strong communication skills when working directly with clients
- Ability to think architecturally
- Willingness to learn rapidly evolving AI technologies
