Director of Data Science, Consumer and Developer Experience

Lead data science initiatives at Capital One, developing machine learning and analytics products for more than 100 million banking customers. Work with engineering and product teams using large-scale cloud data.

Description

  • Work with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver customer-focused products.
  • Use Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and related tools to find insights in large volumes of numeric and textual data.
  • Design, train, evaluate, validate, and implement machine learning models.
  • Connect complex data science work to concrete business goals.
  • Research emerging technologies and evaluate current methods.
  • Question existing approaches and work with stakeholders to improve them.
  • Build talent within the team and across the organization.
  • Retrieve, combine, and analyze data from diverse sources and formats.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of data analytics experience, a master’s degree and 7 years, or a PhD and 4 years.
  • At least 4 years using open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis.
  • At least 4 years of machine learning experience.
  • At least 4 years of relational database experience.
  • Practical experience developing data science solutions with open-source tools and cloud platforms.
  • Experience with clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning.
  • Experience retrieving, combining, and analyzing data from diverse sources and formats.
  • Preferred: PhD in a STEM field and 5 years of data analytics experience.
  • Preferred: At least 1 year working with AWS.
  • Preferred: At least 3 years managing people.
  • Preferred: At least 5 years using Python, Scala, or R for large-scale data analysis.
  • Preferred: At least 5 years of machine learning experience.
