Chief Operating Officer, Indigenous Justice

Lead operations, implementation, and service delivery for the BC First Nations Justice Council. Oversee Indigenous Justice Centres, workforce planning, budgets, risk, and organizational growth.

Tavsif

  • Lead operations, implementation, people management, and service delivery across the organization.
  • Oversee operations at Indigenous Justice Centres throughout the province.
  • Support the Director responsible for daily operations and service delivery.
  • Maintain consistent service delivery in line with organizational standards and Indigenous justice principles.
  • Ensure programs affecting clients align with the BC First Nations Justice Strategy.
  • Plan workforce needs and staffing across all regions.
  • Track operational performance and drive ongoing improvement.
  • Guide and support direct reports using culturally appropriate, healing-centred practices.
  • Implement Justice Council priorities with support from the CEO.
  • Promote a culturally safe and respectful workplace.
  • Manage internal communications so teams understand organizational priorities.
  • Support leadership development and performance management for operational leaders.
  • Manage operating budgets and financial controls with the Finance Lead and CEO.
  • Direct resources to sustain service delivery and the organization.
  • Identify operational requirements and budget pressures for financial planning.
  • Contribute to long-range planning and responsible growth.
  • Identify ways to broaden BCFNJC’s funding sources.
  • Ensure responsible management of organizational assets.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant laws and organizational standards.
  • Lead operational risk management and improve internal controls.
  • Assist with audit and reporting activities.
  • Coordinate with the CEO to translate strategic direction into operational delivery.
  • Represent the CEO during periods of delegated absence.

Talablar

  • Show knowledge of and respect for BC First Nations governance, the First Nations Leadership Council, Indigenous laws, and protocols.
  • Bring senior operational leadership experience in a complex, multi-site organization of comparable scale, ideally supporting about 150 or more employees.
  • Hold a master’s or undergraduate degree in business administration, public administration, law, operations leadership, or a related discipline.
  • An equivalent blend of education and senior leadership experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrate experience in budgeting and operational planning.
  • Bring strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize competing demands and report promptly.
  • Have experience managing organizational growth and creating practical responses to emerging needs.
  • Be able to address conflict and crises objectively, fairly, and restoratively.
  • Use a collaborative leadership approach centered on mentoring and team building.
  • Hold yourself and others accountable respectfully and in culturally appropriate ways.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead in a culturally safe, trauma-informed setting.
  • Understand community resources and wraparound services in British Columbia.
  • Have working knowledge of Canada’s criminal justice system, with legal knowledge or experience working closely with legal professionals.
  • Show a record of building respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, government partners, and frontline staff.
  • Understand the diversity of BC First Nations and the distinct needs of Indigenous Justice Centres across the province.
  • Hold a valid BC driver’s licence, have access to a vehicle, and be able to travel.
  • A clear criminal record check and Vulnerable Sector Clearance are conditions of employment.
  • Validated Indigenous identity (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrate respect for and understanding of Indigenous cultures, communities, governance, and protocols.
