HR Generalist, L&S Administrative - Madison Hybrid

Support payroll, benefits, immigration, and employee services across UW-Madison’s College of Letters & Science. Help improve HR processes serving more than 60 units.

Description

  • Support HR and payroll operations for one or more college departments
  • Coordinate recruitment and onboarding activities
  • Process hiring and job-change transactions
  • Prepare, submit, and process immigration and employment authorization documents
  • Oversee payroll tasks, including leave reporting and time approvals
  • Administer employee benefit activities
  • Help develop HR services for the College of Letters & Science
  • Research, analyze, and implement individual and group process improvements
  • Develop, interpret, implement, and update HR policies and procedures
  • Provide HR consultation and analytical support
  • Maintain personnel records, communications, and related materials
  • Represent the unit at workshops, information sessions, and training events
  • Answer employee questions and resolve workplace issues
  • Complete and audit transactions and changes in accordance with established policies and procedures

Requirements

  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in human resources, payroll, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word or comparable applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to plan independently, prioritize work, and accurately manage information in web-based systems under deadlines
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use human resources information systems such as Workday or PeopleSoft
  • Human resources or payroll experience in higher education or a comparable environment
  • Experience applying complex policies and procedures to multifaceted processes
  • Experience improving processes, adapting to change, or applying systems thinking
  • Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship by the appointment’s effective date
  • Resume and cover letter required
  • Employment may be subject to a criminal background check
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred
