Description

  • Build Emergence’s R&D Center of Excellence from its initial hires into a multi-vertical engineering organization
  • Manage Egypt-based engineers deployed across portfolio companies
  • Establish and uphold quality standards for engineering talent and deployed teams
  • Own hiring decisions and grow a versatile engineering organization
  • Direct the forward-deployment model, including staffing, engagement length, and accountability
  • Lead biweekly forums for portfolio technical leaders, pod leads, and operating partners
  • Define portfolio-wide practices for development, testing, releases, and observability
  • Coach deployed engineers and strengthen the engineering practices of host teams
  • Improve the full path from product ideation to production, including infrastructure and operating processes
  • Develop shared portfolio capabilities in agent development, data and analytics, and automation
  • Lead Emergence’s central engineering function through architectural guidance, technical reviews, and internal AI tooling
  • Act as Emergence’s primary AI engineering leader and establish practical guardrails for AI use
  • Partner with CEOs, CTOs, and operating partners to turn engineering needs into staffing plans, capabilities, and standards
  • Manage the economics of the deployment model alongside the managing partner
  • Meet regularly with portfolio technical leaders to evaluate engineer performance and determine needed changes

Requirements

  • Bring deep technical experience as a hands-on builder of production systems from design through operation
  • Offer many years of experience designing, building, and running production systems
  • Demonstrate success scaling engineering teams, systems, and architecture
  • Have grown an engineering organization from a small team to several dozen engineers
  • Have led multiple engineering teams concurrently across different products, codebases, or companies
  • Influence teams effectively without relying on direct reporting authority
  • Maintain a high hiring and talent standard, including readiness to make difficult performance decisions
  • Have built delivery processes and infrastructure that increase both speed and operational safety
  • Be fluent in modern engineering practices and reliable, frequent software delivery
  • Use AI hands-on in engineering today and have a well-defined view of its future impact
  • Bring experience across multiple programming languages, technology stacks, cloud environments, and areas including data, automation, or agentic systems
  • Communicate clearly and confidently in English
  • Be based in Egypt
  • Be able to work an afternoon-to-evening Cairo schedule with substantial overlap with US business hours
  • Be able to evaluate engineering quality across the specified languages, frameworks, data and AI technologies, cloud and infrastructure technologies, and domains
