AI/ML Engineering Director – United States Remote

Lead AI and machine learning engineering strategy for General Dynamics Information Technology in a remote U.S. role. Advise clients and shape automation, workflow, and support modernization initiatives across government and commercial environments.

Description

  • Evaluate service desk and contact center operations, covering personnel, processes, technology, operating models, and cost structures.
  • Design future-state support models centered on AI, automation, self-service, and workflow orchestration.
  • Create modernization roadmaps that support federal missions, user experience priorities, and operational efficiency goals.
  • Use client data to develop value-based proposals with clear return-on-investment and cost-savings measures.
  • Help clients reduce manual and repetitive work through intelligent automation and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Present relevant technologies and methods to internal teams and customer stakeholders.
  • Contribute to capture and business development activities, including proposals, requests for information, and whitepapers.
  • Support initiatives spanning IT service management, customer experience, omnichannel support, and enterprise service management.
  • Lead workshops, stakeholder interviews, and assessments of current operations.
  • Translate operational challenges into scalable technical and process improvements.
  • Prepare architecture materials, transformation plans, business cases, and executive briefings.
  • Coordinate with delivery teams, engineers, and clients to connect solutions with mission outcomes and compliance needs.
  • Assess, recommend, and deploy conversational AI, chatbots, virtual agents, intelligent routing, KCS, RPA and agentic automation, workflow platforms, agent assist tools, predictive analytics, and reporting.
  • Show measurable gains in automation, self-service usage, customer and employee experience, resolution speed, operational efficiency, cost management, sustainable modernization, and portfolio growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of related experience is required.
  • At least 15 years of related experience is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, intelligent workflow automation, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Experience applying modern AI methods to practical problems in complex government or commercial technical environments.
  • Experience designing or implementing AI and automation solutions for support organizations.
  • Ability to evaluate and redesign support operating models for greater efficiency and scalability.
  • Strong executive communication and customer-facing consulting abilities.
  • Experience managing or supporting a work portfolio, including delivery against a cost model or ownership of a P&L.
  • Working knowledge of agentic and generative AI support capabilities and copilots.
  • Experience building business cases or ROI and cost models for automation programs.
  • Hands-on experience with virtual agents, LLM orchestration, agentic AI patterns, safety and compliance controls, guardrails, conversational design, AI evaluation frameworks, prompt engineering, and context engineering.
